WHAT'S A BUZZ WITH BILLY BEE. That leaking tap at the kitchen sink is a nightmare. For a Waltec two handle faucet you can attempt to fix it yourself. Turn the water off, relieve the pressure on the system (open a laudry tap) and proceed. Using a phillips #2 take out the screw on the handle and pull the handle off. Take an adjustable wrench and turn counter clockwise on the bottom hex of the brass cartridge. Once loose remove the cartridge. Take a 5/16 Allen Wrench and remove the valve seat (sits under where the cartrdige is) Thls may be real tight so don't be afraid to reef on it. Once loosened remove the valve seat and install new one by reversing the process. Once you have the new valve seat installed it is a good idea to install a new cartidge.as well. Reinstall the handle and it is done. Do both hot and cold cartridges and valve seats. Have fun with the repairs. You will now save $$$$ by not using so much water and by doing it yourself you will have saved service call. More $$$$ in your pocket.

WHAT'S A bUZZ WITH BILLY BEE. As Promised a weekly plumbing tip. Sorry about the delay...A lot of people have been misinformed about what can go down a drainage system. Many of you have been led to believe that it is OK to put coffee grinds down the drain. Think about it..Coffee Grinds in the drain? It is too fine and will get hung up in the drains when mixed with the already layer of grease causing a blockage. You will say...."But Billy Bee we don't put grease in the sink". Everyone does... it is on your dinner plates, it's in the dishwasher, the shampoo, grease is everywhere.....Plugged drains keeps me busy. Put the coffee grinds in the compost and then in the garden. This way you get twice the use of your coffee. A caffiene fix and a fertilizer fix. You won't need me to do a drain fix. $$$ in your wallet, not mine.

WHAT'S A BUZZ WITH BILLY BEE: Shut off valves under sinks and toilets and water heaters/metres. Did you ever try and turn them off and they just don't turn off? Well the reason is.....they are seized. To prevent this from happening it is a good idea to turn them off and right away on again....Do this once every three months and you save them from seizing up and save from paying $$$$$ to the plumber. Just as you would change the oil in your car every 5000 km or take part in holy communion you should also turn your valves on and off every three months. This will keep them in good shape and they will work when you need them too....billy bee

Tip of the Week: Don't forget to turn off your outside water tap for the winter season. There is a stop and drain valve in the basement, usually close to the outside tap. Simply turn off the valve handle of the stop and drain... open the drain portion of the stop and drain... then go back outside and turn the outside tap on to drain the water out of the pipe. This will ensure the pipe cannot freeze in the winter and you save $$$$$ in the spring by not having a split pipe. In the spring just reverse the process and Voila you have water to your outside tap once again.
