When I think about my flower journey and the people who were a part of it, I'll always remember this woman.
My husband's "Granny," as we called her, was always growing different things in her yard. I remember she had bleeding hearts growing up from under a ramp leading up to her front deck, a sign that they were a resilient plant Indeed.
She would come out to our acreage, often with my mother in law, and together with my husband, we'd wonder around the yard, noting any new plant additions or talking about vegetables in the garden.
Granny had a lot of first-hand knowledge and also a lot of trial and error stories. One thing I learned from her was that no plant is too precious, that we shouldn't try and grow it, and that experimenting is a big part of growing anything.
In her later years, when dementia set in, my mother in law would still bring her out, and we'd still wonder around the yard. I think being outside amongst nature brought her calm and peace.
Granny left us before the flower farm began. I wish so much that we could have shown her what we've done. I can picture my husband telling her all about the greenhouse he built, while we eagerly showed her all the different flowers. I think she would have really loved it all.
I think about her in every season, and I am grateful for the knowledge she shared with us throughout the years.
Happy heavenly birthday 🌷
