And just like that, it's starting to look like a kitchen! 👀

Project In a New Light is starting to look a whole lot more like home!

The custom cabinetry is going in, and suddenly all those plans and design decisions are becoming a reality. The kitchen is taking shape, the bathroom is getting a beautiful custom vanity, and we're getting a much better picture of how these spaces are going to come together.

There's still more cabinetry to install, countertops to come, and plenty of finishing touches ahead - but this is one of those stages where the transformation really starts to show.

Not bad for a bungalow that's been around a few decades. 😉

“So… can we just take this wall down?”

Wellllll… yes. But there’s a little more to it. 😉

For Project Lustre & Light, we wanted to remove 23 feet of load-bearing centre wall to completely open up the main living space.

Before anything came down, temporary shoring was installed to safely support the structure. The wall could then be removed and replaced with a 4-ply, 16" LVL drop beam, bearing on the exterior foundation at one end and a new footing at the other.

That meant heading downstairs, too.

The existing footing was undersized, so the concrete basement floor was cut and removed, the area excavated, and a new 30" x 30" reinforced footing was created with 15M rebar running in both directions.

And because HVAC, plumbing and electrical were running through the old wall, those services all had to be relocated as part of the process.

When this project is finished, you won't see most of this work.

You'll just see a gorgeous, open living space.

But this is what's underneath the pretty.

The old wood door had a good long run, but this navy beauty - with that decorative glass - feels right at home with everything else we're changing inside.

You’ve seen the finished home. Now we’re zooming in on the details.

If you’ve been following Project Stone & Arch from the beginning, you’ve watched a lot of these pieces come together – sometimes when they looked a whole lot less pretty than they do now. 😉

The arches, custom millwork, antique mantel, built-ins, finishes and all those smaller design choices were considered long before they reached this point.

That’s one of our favourite things about a custom build: the finished home can feel effortless, even though t here were hundreds of decisions behind it.

So now that we’ve shown you the big picture, we thought these details deserved their turn.
