Today we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of Canada’s veterans, active military members, and those who gave their lives.

Let us remember their stories, reflect on their legacy, and express our deepest gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Today, we recognize Indigenous Veterans Day.

We honour and remember the Indigenous men and women who sacrificed for, and served their country with courage, dedication, and valor.

Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis have a long and proud tradition of military service to our Country. Although they overcame significant obstacles to serve in uniform, they continued to encounter challenges after their service and frequently did not receive treatment equal to that of other Canadian veterans.

As we approach Remembrance Day, take a moment to learn the names and faces behind all veterans who have fought for our country, and our freedom.

Today marks the beginning of Veterans’ Week.

Veterans’ Week encompasses more than a day of "remembering" those who have fought for our country and our freedom.

It is a time to educate ourselves on the history of Canada, where we are now, and how we got here.

It is a chance to recognize those who have served, mourn those who never made it home, and thank those who serve today.

It is an opportunity to see what sacrifice looks like, and its impacts not only for those who served but their loved ones as well.

We encourage everyone to take a moment this week and visit https://ow.ly/KbUj50XiWFz.

Peruse the "People and stories" section, read up Indigenous Veterans Day (November 8) or discover events happening near you and how you can participate.
