Monday, I was made aware of a road incident involving an employee of M&M Resources that has since been shared and discussed heavily on social media. The descriptions and images circulating do not align with the values and behaviors we expect from our staff, and I have initiated a review to address this matter with the employee involved. In the coming days, we will be issuing a company-wide reminder to reinforce the standards of conduct expected of every M&M Resources employee, whether in the office or out in the field.

M&M Resources is a longstanding business rooted in Island values and traditions. We take immense pride in the quality of our work, our efficiency, and, most importantly, our sense of belonging to our community. The M&M family is inclusive, welcoming Island families as both staff and clients, whether through deep generational ties or at the beginning of their Island story as they establish roots here.

The Island is changing, and that can be a source of fear and anger for some. I cannot stand by idly and condone the racist and ignorant remarks being made about my employee, regardless of the incident. PEI is often described as a welcoming place, but when I see individuals hurling unequivocal hateful words and accusations at someone simply because they look different, I question whether we are living up to that reputation. I'm also left wondering whether the reaction would have been as severe if the individual involved more closely resembled those making these comments.

This is not the Island community I know, and it is not the Island community I want to be a part of.

As we continue our investigation and take any necessary corrective actions, I want everyone who has joined in making these harmful remarks to remember that this individual is also a member of our Island community, deserving of the same respect and dignity we all expect.

We are saddened at the passing of one of our longest serving employees, Jimmy Moar. Affectionately known to many of us as “Ferley”, he will be remembered as steady, reliable, hardworking, always willing to stop and have a laugh, and forever willing to be a mentor to the young guys entering the trucking profession. He put a lot of good miles behind him. Our condolences go out to Dayle and Family. Jimmy’s contribution to not only M&M but to the trucking industry in Eastern PEI will be remembered.

Peacefully at the Kings County Memorial Hospital with family by his side the passing of Homer James
