Days worked on site, not including all the running around, phone calls, meetings with engineer, email back and forth with city, and paperwork in office getting project ready.

-Monday Aug 17th start day. Labourer and myself.
-Tuesday Aug 18th. Labourer and myself
-Wendesday Aug 19th labourer and myself
-Thursday Aug 20th labourer and myself
-Friday Aug 20th 2 labourer and myself
Hours 30 total.

-Each day was drivin in company truck. One day hauling equipment trailer back and forth and one day hauling dump trailer back and forth so client could empty garage garbage.

-Material costs incurred 2k (little over but rounded down for argument sake)

-permits were approved, but we messaged the city and told them to remove our name from applications

-locates were requested and completed.

-client claimed false allegations on Aug 24th via email saying we blocked his number and verbally assaulted his wife to which he later back tracked and said he was wrong.

-we agreed to make any changes the client requested but he decided to let us go.

-he had another contractor there on the Friday Aug 20 to look at work that was not complete and he was told it would fail as it was ( obviously it wasn't complete)

- we were let go as of Sunday Aug 23rd despite everything being okay as of Friday and no concerns being brought to our attention.

These are just some brief details with photo proof to show that we did not "take a deposit and run" it's a ludicrous accusation. One I didn't think I would even have to defend because I thought it was so ridiculous.

I will not waste any further time posting about this particular project but I will be posting seperate posts to respond to other allegations with photo proof. We will also argue NOTHING else about the work. We have been accused of fraud and that's what I'm responding to.

- in short the client paid 10k, their current bill stands at 8,700 but I haven't added in anything outside of the one week. All pricing is based on CRA average pricing.

We want to address some recent posts circulating online regarding Mark’s General Contracting.
Recently, an anonymous/public post accused our company of “taking deposits and then not doing the work.”
This is a false and misleading statement.
We take our reputation, our customers, and the work we put our name on very seriously. Like any contracting company, projects can sometimes experience scheduling changes, unforeseen circumstances, disagreements, or situations that don't go exactly as planned. That does not give anyone the right to publicly make false accusations about our business.
We are always willing to address legitimate customer concerns directly and professionally. If someone has an issue with work we've performed or a project we're involved with, we encourage them to contact us so we can discuss it and work toward a resolution.
What we will not do is participate in online arguments, name-calling, or public disputes.
Our work speaks for itself.
MGC has built its reputation by showing up, putting in the work, standing behind our projects, and treating our customers with respect. We will continue doing exactly that.
To our past, current, and future customers: thank you for your continued trust and support. ❤️
We won't let a social-media post define a business we've worked hard to build.

Structural Support Systems: Wood Post vs. Lally Column

This technical illustration compares two common methods for providing vertical structural support in construction: a traditional timber Wood Post and a steel-based Lally Column. The image highlights how each system transfers loads from an overhead horizontal beam down to a concrete footing, emphasizing the different fastening hardware and base connections required for wood versus steel components.

Key Components & Features

Wood Post System:

Steel Connector: A metal bracket (post cap) that secures the horizontal beam to the top of the wood post to prevent lateral movement.

Wood Post: A heavy timber vertical member that carries the compressive load.

Steel Pin: A reinforcement at the base that anchors the post to the concrete, preventing the bottom of the post from shifting.

Concrete Pad/Footing: A solid base that distributes the weight of the structure into the ground.

Lally Column System:

Lally Column: A circular steel pipe, often filled with concrete, designed for high load-bearing capacity with a smaller footprint than wood.

Top Plate: A steel plate welded to the top of the column, secured to the beam with Nails or Lag Screws.

Base Plate & Bolts: A square steel fl**ge at the bottom of the column that is securely anchored to the footing using heavy-duty bolts.

Footing: A concrete foundation similar to the wood post setup, providing a stable platform for the steel assembly.

Design Summary

The illustration serves as a comparative guide for architectural and engineering choices. While the wood post offers a traditional aesthetic and ease of fastening with standard brackets, the Lally column provides a more compact, industrial-strength solution often used in basements or commercial spaces. Both systems rely on a robust concrete footing to ensure the structural integrity and stability of the building's frame.

Well we did it. We have most of the year booked in for work!! This winter seemed to drag out so we took the time to fill our schedule but now with the weather finally turning steady we can start getting our projects underway! With the schedule being full we will be looking for labourers, 1 experienced person to start that knows their way around a site, that will likely end up being a lead hand. We have the work, now we want to build a solid crew with a good work environment where we can all work and learn together.
