Did a little backyard “shopping” today, and there’s no question about it—this has been the year of the cucumber!

We’ve been picking a dozen or more almost every time we head into the garden. At this point, the cucumber plants are producing faster than we can eat them!

We’ve also started setting aside some of our favorite varieties to save seeds from for next year. The paper bags are our very official, highly sophisticated seed-saving system.

Looks like we may have accidentally created a cucumber empire.

The greenhouse is officially bursting at the seams!

At this point, there's barely enough room to walk through without brushing past a dozen plants. Apparently, we once again forgot our annual promise to not overplant.

And despite the summer not exactly delivering nonstop heat, this eggplant clearly didn't get the memo. It's happily chugging along and loving life!

Felt good getting the whole family back in the garden today!

We cleaned up the tomato beds and came away with a basket full of cucumbers. The tomatoes are definitely having a quiet year, but the cucumbers are coming in HARD!

So far, Mercury is the clear winner for production. And with a second round of raspberries coming, there's still plenty of sweetness in the garden. 🥒❤️

We owe you all a bit of an apology.

We've been very quiet around here this year, and we promise we haven't forgotten about you!

Life has been absolutely non-stop since early spring. Between renovating the house from insulation and flooring right through to electrical work, hosting students, taking a vacation right in the middle of our busiest season, and everything else life decided to throw at us... it's been a lot!

Unfortunately, the garden took a bit of a hit too. We're definitely missing our usual supply of homegrown tomatoes, peppers and everything else we've come to rely on from the garden.

But there have been a few bright spots!

Our backyard hydrangea has never looked better, and the lily in the front garden has absolutely taken off.

When we first moved here, that lily had one single stem and was barely hanging on. Now look at it—four big, healthy stems and thriving!

Thank you to everyone who's continued to follow along, support us and stick with us while we've been a little MIA. We really do appreciate this community more than you know.

We're slowly getting back into the swing of things, and we have plenty to share!

For years we've been known for growing tomato plants so big they could probably give Bigfoot a run for his money.

So this year, we decided to go in the complete opposite direction and try Sweet Berry!

Topping out at just 12" tall, these compact little plants are perfect for patios, balconies, and small spaces. We're thinking they might just become a semi-permanent addition to our lineup for years to come.

🤯 WHOA. Who is this kid?!

Today, M started her first job working for someone else, and we still can't quite believe it!

Now, she's no stranger to earning her own money. Since she was six years old, she's sold homemade slime, then handmade soaps, and later helped with office work in our second family business. Many of you have been part of that journey, too, supporting her little businesses and stopping by her table at local markets over the years. ❤️

We're honestly just... shocked. And incredibly proud.

Watching seedlings grow into strong, independent plants is what we do every day. Somehow, our own little seedling has been growing right alongside them. 🌱

*Grow With Us* has always been our motto. Today, it feels especially fitting.

(P.S. We promised M we wouldn't post a photo of her in her work uniform, so here is a picture of one of our beautiful local scenery instead. 😊)

It may not look like much, but this single piece of laminate marks a pretty big milestone... it's the last piece of flooring on our entire top floor (well... until we redo the washroom next year..).

We actually started this project at the end of January, but life had other plans. We hit pause for over three months while we hosted international students, then Theo was sick for about a month, gardening season kicked into full gear, we squeezed in a three-week vacation, and just after getting home Theo ended up needing a cardioversion.

Needless to say, progress wasn't exactly a straight line.

But today, the flooring is officially done! 🎉

Now it's on to the baseboards and stairs (thank goodness for stair kits), and another big project can finally be checked off the list.

Every summer seems to come with one big project around here. 😅

Over the past few years we've rebuilt the backyard, installed irrigation, replaced the front and side fences... and this summer it's the house's turn for an upgrade.

At one point today there were seven different work vehicles parked between our driveway and the street—including a traffic control company. It looked more like a construction site than a home! 😂

Homeownership definitely keeps you busy, but it's rewarding looking back and seeing how much has changed over the years.

Now let's just hope this project stays on schedule... because we all know how home projects have a funny way of growing bigger than planned!

I think this might be the earliest we've ever harvested artichokes from our garden!

These beauties came from the plants that successfully overwintered, and they definitely got a head start this season.

Now comes the best part... steaming them up and dipping every leaf in melted butter with a squeeze of fresh lemon.

How do you like to eat your artichokes? Any must-try recipes?

Today's harvest: two containers of fresh raspberries!

We spent a little time cleaning up the raspberry patch this morning, and the timing couldn't have been better—they made the perfect addition to our pancakes for brunch.
