Condo’s keep the work interesting.

Our client needs to relocate their hot water tank, as they were installing a tankless unit.

A little creativity got the job done. Utilizing existing passages in the concrete ceiling we were able to re-route the supply and return lines to accommodate the new tankless hot water heater location.

Is hiring a licensed plumber more expensive than “Jim down the street, who’s good at plumbing” - Yes, it absolutely is.

What is also means is that you are hiring someone who doesn’t make significant mistakes like shown in the picture.

You might think “What’s wrong with that”

1. Galvanized fittings have not been permitted to be used in potable water plumbing for years, except where it’s to repair existing galvanized pipework.

2. Dissimilar metals shouldn’t come in direct contact or galvanic corrosion will result. That connecting would have failed eventually, and would have caused substantial water damage when it did.

3. The plug, on top of not being permitted by code and a ticking time bomb, wasn’t even installed correctly. It was barely threaded into the female adapter, and no thread sealants were applied.

The 3rd picture shows a code compliant, simple, and long lasting solution.

Revamping bathrooms in condo’s can take some creativity.

Just some basic plumbing for the mixing valve, but for the shower head we had to be a bit creative - and use science.

Head pressure is usually considering when sizing pumps, in this install we are using it to ensure the shower head doesn’t drip when not being used. A couple elf extra loops of pipe inside the wall will increase the ‘head pressure’ or resistance so that water doesn’t passively flow up the pipe to the shower head.

No - you don’t normally need to do this. The client wanted a very specific shower mixing valve for its aesthetic, which unfortunately created the potentially issue, but we were able to solve it with science.

Condo living can present unique challenges, like how does a plant lover water their outdoor plants.

We were able to help this client by installing a hose bib in a floor level cabinet for them. Out of sight, because no great conversation has ever started with ‘hey look at my hose bib’, but easy to access when needed.

We T’d into the cold water supply to their sink and they were happily watering their plants when we left.

Our commercial client was struggling with frequent backups. Another company had suggested an expensive, completely unnecessary, solution.

We were asked to take a look and, although it took a couple of visits, we were able to resolved some significant grease buildup in their grease interceptor and waste lines, due to poor maintenance by the previous owner.

We were able to actually address the issue, and for less than the other company had quoted them for unnecessary work

If you’re wondering, yes it smelled as bad as it looks. 4 inches plus of caked on grease doesn’t smell yummy.

The client received the “Service You Deserve” and a real solution to their problem.

Many people are opting for “Whole Home” water filtration these days. Houses typically have plenty of space to mount the filter housings, but smaller spaces like condos can present a challenge.

Condo living certainly has advantages, but there are some hidden risks. Condo’s often have shared plumbing stacks, which puts occupants on lower floors at risk of back-ups caused by what their upstairs neighbours put down the drain.

We were recently called out to a major back-up in a ground floor unit, caused entirely by what an upper floor occupant put down the drain.

The installation of a one way valve for a few hundred dollars, could save you from the stress of dealing with a major back up. The valve will ensure that of your upstairs neighbours do put something down the drain that they shouldn’t, you won’t suffer the consequences.

The hidden plumbing in you home is the backbone of the ‘waste’ component of your plumbing system.

Done right, by a professional plumber, it will help guarantee years of worry free functioning.
