Is hiring a licensed plumber more expensive than “Jim down the street, who’s good at plumbing” - Yes, it absolutely is.
What is also means is that you are hiring someone who doesn’t make significant mistakes like shown in the picture.
You might think “What’s wrong with that”
1. Galvanized fittings have not been permitted to be used in potable water plumbing for years, except where it’s to repair existing galvanized pipework.
2. Dissimilar metals shouldn’t come in direct contact or galvanic corrosion will result. That connecting would have failed eventually, and would have caused substantial water damage when it did.
3. The plug, on top of not being permitted by code and a ticking time bomb, wasn’t even installed correctly. It was barely threaded into the female adapter, and no thread sealants were applied.
