Most contractors freeze, start defending price, or drop the price to win the job. All three cost you money.

Here’s exactly what to say if you want to close the deal without lowering your price:

Step 1: “Mr./Mrs. Homeowner, if we were to put both quotes side by side and they were exactly the same price, who would you choose?”

They will almost always say you.

Step 2: Ask “Why?”

Then you better hope they say things like “We like your design better”, “Your communication has been better”, “You were faster getting back to us and more through with your estimate”.

That’s step 1 and step 2.

There is one more step, step 3 and it gets them to sell themselves on why you’re the better choice, out loud, without you saying a word so they sign your contract, and pay you a deposit without ever dropping your price.
