This coming Sunday we are excited to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day.
As a Nation-owned business, we are proud to advance our mandate while supporting the vision and values of the Ktunaxa Nation. We express our gratitude to our shareholders, the Ktunaxa Nation, and its citizens. We celebrate the Ktunaxa Nation’s leadership, economic achievements, and meaningful contributions throughout the territory and the accomplishments that reflect a shared source of pride.
Nupqu proudly recognizes and celebrates the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. We honor their unique knowledge, traditions, perspectives, and remain committed to ongoing learning, understanding, and reconciliation.
We encourage everyone to take time to learn about, honor, and celebrate the lasting contributions Indigenous Peoples have made, and continue to make to our country, province, communities, and workplaces.
The below events provide meaningful opportunities for everyone to come together to celebrate and recognize the rich and diverse cultures, histories, and traditions of Indigenous Peoples:
ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration
Join in a celebration of Indigenous culture, including drumming, dancing, beading, pine needle weaving, traditional games, and more.
When: June 18, 5 – 7 p.m.
Where: Lakeshore Campground (3151 BC-95, Windermere)
Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it First Nation National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration
The 30th Annual Indigenous Day Celebration and Border Walk at Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it Administration building (5500 Village Loop Road).
Come to share in outdoor games, a moccasin demonstration, hide tanning display, and drumming. Dinner will be provided.
When: June 21, 9:15 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Where: Roosville Border to start and then Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it Administration building (5500 Village Loop Road).
Details: The Border Walk at the Roosville Border will take place from 10 – 11:30 a.m. and be followed by a Celebration at the Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it Administration building. Drum circles, dancing, kids’ games, bouncy castle, face painting, and local vendors. Lunch will be provided at noon. A Stick Games tournament will begin at 5 p.m.
Shuswap Band National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration
Immerse yourself in a celebration with traditional games/presentation, medicinal plant/tea station, info tents, and Indigenous merchants market. BBQ by donation and door prizes.
When: June 21, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Where: Shuswap Band Health Centre (9975 Kinbasket Trail, Invermere)
