Travel Advisory - Frances Bridge Full Closure, Radium Hot Springs

Please be advised that Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting crews will be performing
major repairs to Frances Bridge in the following weeks.

October 14, 2026 | 7:00 AM: Crews will begin preliminary work on Frances Bridge.
October 19, 2026: FULL CLOSURE takes place and remains in place until November 2,
2026.
November 2-6, 2026: Bridge will re-open for light traffic (5-ton max).
November 7, 2026: Bridge will return to regular use, and all closures will be removed.

Drivers should plan to use an alternate route during this work as no crossing will be
available during the full closure at any time.

Please be advised that snow flurries are expected in the Elk Valley this weekend. Drivers should prepare for 1-3cm of snow.

Make sure that your winter tires are installed and in good condition. Stay back from plows and other Mainroad vehicles that will be preparing for and responding to winter weather.

Travel Advisory - Road Work on Wardner Fort Steele Road

Sept. 29th - Oct. 6th
Mainroad crews will be performing work from the Kootenay Trout Hatchery & Visitor Centre to Norbury Lake on Wardner Fort Steele Road. Expect loose gravel and uneven ground during work. Motorcycles especially should be cautious when driving through the work zone due to these conditions.

What's the worst part of your job?

Is it responding to convoluted emails? Dealing with your annoying coworker? Serving demanding customers?

For roadside workers, every day that they head out on the job could mean absolute peril. Not only are they oftentimes the first ones at the scene of an accident, the ones who block off traffic during emergencies, and the ones who get yelled at by the general public— they are also putting their own lives at risk.

You've seen the way some people drive. Erratically swerving in and out of traffic, blowing red lights, etc.

Now picture the person in a vest working on the shoulder of the road. They can only hope that someone cares about their life.
