After asbestos-containing floor tile is removed, the work is not always finished when the tile is gone.

WINMAR® Nelson often finds that the mastic has had decades to bond and migrate into the subfloor. Over 40 to 50 years, it can soak into the wood fibres, leaving staining and residue that is difficult to eliminate without removing additional substrate.

That is why post-abatement planning matters. The goal is a safe, compliant removal of the regulated material, followed by a practical path forward for rebuilding. Depending on site conditions, the next step is often to prepare the surface and install the new flooring assembly over the existing subfloor rather than chasing every last visual trace of mastic that has penetrated the wood.

The height of a drywall cut is not a guess, and it is not always “two feet.”

WINMAR® Nelson sets flood cuts based on measured moisture, not a tape measure default. Drywall wicks water upward, and the visible stain is rarely the true wet boundary. That is why we moisture map first, then cut above the confirmed wet line to create access for drying and inspection.

The goal is controlled removal. High enough to remove wet gypsum and insulation where required, but not higher than necessary. Cutting too low can trap moisture behind the board. Cutting too high adds avoidable demolition and rebuild time.

Clean, level cuts also matter for reconstruction. A straight line makes it easier to reinstall board, tape, mud, and return the wall to a consistent finish without extra framing changes.

This is what targeted mitigation looks like: verify the wet boundary, open the assembly with purpose, dry what can be dried, remove what cannot, and confirm conditions before we close it back up.

Have you ever heard scratching in the walls once the weather starts cooling down?

Fall is when squirrels start looking for warm, protected places to nest, and small openings around soffits, rooflines, vents, fascia, and utility penetrations can become an invitation.

A good first step is a walk-around inspection before temperatures drop. Look for damaged screens, gaps at roof edges, loose soffit panels, and branches that give squirrels easy access to the roof. Trimming back nearby limbs and sealing entry points early can help prevent a small wildlife issue from becoming damaged insulation, chewed wiring, or contaminated attic materials.
