There’s a lot more to a concrete pour than meets the eye.

Concrete is a carefully designed mix of cementitious material, sand, stone, water, and admixtures, all measured to achieve the required strength, workability, and durability. Getting the water-to-cement ratio right is especially important too much water can reduce strength and increase shrinkage.

Once the concrete arrives on site, it’s discharged into the pump truck, where hydraulic pressure moves it through the boom and hose directly to the slab. Our crew then places, levels, and finishes the concrete while carefully working around the reinforcing steel, plumbing, and in-floor radiant heating lines.

Timing and coordination are critical throughout the pour, and proper curing afterward helps the slab develop its strength and long-term durability.

A lot of what makes a quality build eventually gets covered up but getting these details right is what matters.

There’s a lot more to an engineered slab than what you see once the concrete is poured.

Beneath the surface, a compacted granular base, insulation, vapour barrier, and engineered rebar system work together to provide stability, moisture control, thermal performance, and structural strength.

Radiant in-floor heating lines are carefully integrated into the reinforcing steel, while thickened slab edges and additional rebar strengthen areas where loads are concentrated. Plumbing, electrical, mechanical penetrations, and formwork are also coordinated before the pour.

Once the concrete is placed, most of this disappears but every component plays a critical role in creating a strong, efficient foundation built to last.

Progress is built one foundation at a time.

We’ve been busy across multiple job sites, and it’s great to see both projects taking shape.

Equestrian Lane – Concrete footings are complete, setting the foundation for the next phase of construction.

Little Mops Road – Significant progress has been made with foundation walls, underslab insulation, vapour barrier installation, reinforcing steel, and slab preparation.

At Carbondale Construction, every successful build starts with precision, quality workmanship, and a dedicated team committed to getting it right from the ground up.

Stay tuned as these projects continue to come together!

Big day on site as the concrete trucks rolled in and the foundations were poured for our newest 2–4 unit townhouse development on Farrell Street.

Every successful build starts with a solid foundation, and we’re proud to see this project taking shape. From excavation to concrete placement, our team and trade partners are working hard to deliver quality-built homes that will serve families and investors for years to come.

“Can you do gables in ICF?”
At Carbondale Construction, the answer is yes, absolutely.

Here’s a 12/12 ICF gable going up on one of our projects in Stewiacke. Clean lines, solid bracing, and the experience to make complex ICF details come together properly.

A lot of people think ICF is only for straight walls but with the right crew, custom gables and advanced roof lines are no issue.

Built strong. Built efficient. Built the Carbondale way.
