Congratulations to Local 2736’s Inaugural ITM Graduates!

Millwrights Union Local 2736 is proud to recognize the inaugural graduating class of our Introduction to Millwrighting (ITM) Program:

Charlene Shackelly, Jason Karlson, Dalley Major-Lindstrom, and Evan Sterling

Over the past six weeks, this cohort has been working diligently in Merritt to build the skills and training needed to begin their careers in the Millwright trade and prepare for opportunities on Teck’s Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Mine Life Extension (MLE) Project.

A big thank you to our instructor team, Craig McPhaille, Carey Simpson, and Emmanuel Reynoso, who guided the cohort through Adult Education, Equipment Training, Job Ready Dispatch requirements, and first-year Millwrighting concepts.

This program would not have been possible without the generous financial wrap-around support from Build a Dream, along with the commitment and collaboration of all the key stakeholders: Teck, HVC, the MLE Project, RKM Crane Services, the Millwright Regional Council, Millwrights Union Local 2736, Lower Nicola Indian Band - LNIB, and Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly: Employment and Training.

The groundwork has been laid, now it’s time to put boots on the ground, go to work, and help build this project!

As these new apprentices head to the jobsite, we ask our experienced members to help welcome and support them. If you find yourself working alongside this cohort, introduce yourself, share your knowledge, and remember that we were all apprentices once. Every member has a role in creating a jobsite and lunch trailer where new apprentices feel welcome, supported, and part of the Local 2736 family.

Welcome to Millwrights Union Local 2736, Charlene, Jason, Dalley, and Evan! We look forward to watching you progress through your apprenticeships, build successful careers in the Millwright trade, and see where the journey takes you next.

Standing Together for British Columbia

As wildfires continue to impact communities across B.C. and our province remains under a State of Emergency, Millwrights Union Local 2736 stands with everyone affected.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the firefighters, first responders, emergency personnel and volunteers working tirelessly to protect our communities. Many are working long hours in dangerous conditions and away from their own families. Thank you for everything you are doing.

To those who have been evacuated, displaced or have lost their homes and belongings, our hearts are with you.

How you can help:

• Donate to the Canadian Red Cross B.C. Wildfires Appeal:
https://www.redcross.ca/

• Check current evacuation orders and emergency alerts through EmergencyInfoBC:
https://www.emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca/

• Follow all evacuation orders, fire bans and restrictions, keep roads clear for emergency crews, and check in on friends, family, neighbours and fellow members who may be affected.

In times like these, we are reminded of the strength of our communities and the importance of looking out for one another.

To our members, their families and communities across B.C., please stay safe.

In solidarity,
Millwrights Union Local 2736

In Memory of Brother John Murphy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brother John Murphy.

John became a member of Millwrights Union Local 2736 on May 13, 2003, and proudly represented our Local and our trade for more than 23 years.

Throughout his career, John worked at industrial facilities across British Columbia, including Howe Sound, Powell River, Cariboo Pulp, Harmac, Port Alice and many others. He was frequently dispatched as a Foreman and General Foreman, reflecting the experience and leadership he brought to the job.

John's many years in the trade and dedication to his work leave a lasting mark on our Brotherhood and the many members who had the opportunity to work alongside him.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to John's family, friends, and all those who knew and worked with him.

Rest in Peace, Brother John. You will be remembered and missed.
