Over the holiday season we were able to raise some money from both our employees and our clients to help out the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. The food bank is a recurrent choice for us to donate to as they support our community by feeding the 35,000+ people who visit it monthly.

We are pleased to have been able to donate $4190 to the food bank last month! A big thanks to all of the employees and clients who contributed to making this donation possible!

The Continental Family Skating Night was held at Cloverdale Arena’s Winter Wonderland. The arena was beautifully decorated, and the skating was a lot of fun! There was even a visit from Santa who handed out a candy bag to all boys and girls on the good list! There was a large turnout, and kids big and small enjoyed themselves!

A couple of our new journeymen were recognized by RCABC in their annual Top Apprentice Awards for the 2024-25 school year.

Jacob Wilkins (left) was named the Top Roofer Apprentice in BC, and Ammar Bkribasha (right) was named the Top Roofer Apprentice for the Lower Mainland.

Employee Training is the focus of Day 5 of Roofing Week. As roofers, there are inevitable hazards that we have to deal with on a regular basis such as working at heights, operation of power tools, or working with hazardous materials. Proper training ensures we handle these hazards correctly. There's also training to ensure jobs are being done the right way and to a high standard.

National Roofing Week Day 4 - Employee Appreciation

Our employees are the heart of our business, often working long and hard days to ensure our work is done right. We believe that building relationships with our employees and providing ways for them to make connections with one another and have fun outside of the workplace is vital.

We hold several company events throughout the year, which in the last few years have included bowling nights, dinners at the race track, Abbotsford Canucks games, fishing trips, Christmas breakfasts, go-karting, and paintballing.

Charitable Projects and Events is Day 3 of Roofing Week! We believe in giving back to our communities, which usually manifests through donations. We have a community donations board in our office to keep staff informed on opportunities to help out. We do an annual Movember donation as well as donations to local food banks and the Legion.

Day 2 of Roofing Week is for showcasing some of our signature projects. In addition to our many Repair & Maintenance crews, we also have Production and Metal crews dedicated to larger projects on both the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

In the past year, some of the work from our Vancouver Island crews included re-roofing the Ladysmith City Hall building with an SBS roofing system(bottom left), as well as a TPO Roofing system for a building at Shawnigan Lake (top left and middle right).

Some of our Lower Mainland crews' recent work includes an SBS re-roof project for a building in Lonsdale (middle left and bottom right), while our Metal crew has some of their custom flashing work featured in the top left photo. Some other re-roof projects from this year include a Best Buy distribution centre in Langley and some sections of Guildford Town Centre.

Sunday June 1st was the first 1st day of Roofing Week this year. Day 1 celebrates the women in our trade, and at Continental we have several who are integral to our success!

Big thanks to Lisa (Human Resources), Laura (Finance Coordinator), Janine (Project Administrator), Rebecca (Maintenance Coordinator), Sherise (Vancouver Island & On-Call Coordinator) and Jodi (Head of Administration) for all their hard work over the years.

Some of our employees recently enjoyed an evening at Speeders Richmond, a multi-level electric go-cart racing facility. 15 staff and a few friends flew around the course. Afterwards there was food and more games, like darts, axe throwing, mini golf and laser tag. Our team had a great time enjoying some friendly competition and strengthening bonds outside of the workplace.

The Christmas spirit is strong within Continental and our valued clients this year!

We offered our clients a choice of a $100 Visa gift card for their staff Xmas parties OR a $100 donation to the Foodbank on their behalf. Many chose the latter, and Continental added another $500. Together, over $4500 was raised for the Foodbank! Our thanks to Lisa Hearn for coordinating this!
