The Northern Red Oak is a fast-growing (2 ft per year), long-lived tree prized for its striking fall foliage, stately form, and durable wood. Showy Mountain Ash is typically chosen as an accent tree due to its smaller stature and 4-season interest. Dark green leaves grow alongside clusters of small white flowers which turn to clusters of showy red fruits in early fall. The leaves themselves turn vibrant yellow, orange and fiery red in the fall. For winter interest, the smooth, grey bark stands out and shines against white of the snow, and the berries persist into the winter.

Fall is the time to get your garlic in the ground so it can establish before winter and get a head start next spring!

A few important planting tips:
🧄 Separate the bulb into individual cloves, but DO NOT remove the papery skin from the garlic cloves.
🌱 Plant each clove with the pointed end facing up.
🍂 Once planted, mulch heavily with straw to help protect the garlic through the winter.

Mount Royal Plum

Known to be one of the best blue plums. Good for fresh eating, processing, or drying. The plums that are harvested in late Summer are freestone, blue skinned, and have a firm yellow flesh. It has a spreading canopy that is quite ornamental in appearance.

One of the only self-pollinating plums that is hardy in Alberta. Often produces on younger trees, because it does not require a second plum variety to produce fruit. Will cross-pollinate with European plum varieties. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water.
