Habitat Studio

Habitat Studio Residential Designer/Builder. Building your vision. To us, true custom design means every one of our homes starts with a blank sheet.
(1)

No templates and no floor plans. We fill that sheet with your ideas, needs and preferences to build out a vision that’s uniquely you. Then, we work side-by-side with you to refine your vision into a home you can be proud of and will last for generations.

Traditional design is worth a closer look.

The beauty is often in the details: the curve of a column, layered details above in the ceiling , the character of the millwork that give each room its own sense of presence.

In a traditional home, ornamentation isn’t an afterthought. It’s part of the architecture, creating a sense of richness and character that carries from room to room.

Here is a basement that does a little bit of everything! With a dedicated gym, a spot to gather around the bar and a rec space made for the kids, every square foot has a purpose.

When spaces are well designed, fun and function can happily coexist.

Torrential downpours, heatwaves, mosquitos and everything in between. This summer in Edmonton really kept us on our toes.

We bet a screen room, like the one in our Magnolia Manor project, would have come in handy this year! The perfect protected space to enjoy bug-free outdoor living & dining, or enjoy a little extra shelter on rainy days. Not only is it practical, but it looks beautiful too.

Back to school is just around the corner, which means backpacks, muddy shoes, extra layers and everything else will soon be making their way through the door.

This is when a good mudroom really shines. It gives busy family life somewhere to land, while keeping the rest of the house a little more organized and a lot less cluttered. With Alberta weather doing whatever it feels like, having a space that can handle wet boots one day and winter gear the next is pretty invaluable.

A well-designed mudroom can make the daily shuffle a whole lot easier to manage!

There’s a reason blue shows up in so many of our favourite spaces.

It’s familiar, calming and incredibly versatile, but when we go deep and colour-drench an entire room, it becomes something much more unexpected. Here, the rich blue gives this home office a sense of depth and personality, making it feel like a space you actually want to spend your workday in.

Working from home feels a little different when your office is one of the rooms you love most.

When the vision is this bold, you have to trust it.

Green tile, green countertops and a full walnut kitchen are definitely bold choices, but together, they bring this mid-century inspired kitchen to life. It can be hard to picture how all those elements will come together when you’re choosing them one by one, but that’s where trusting the process, our expertise and being all in on the overall vision pays off.

We think this one speaks for itself!

A closer look at the details because they deserve their own moment.

When the smaller moments of a home are this good, they give you a pretty good idea of the meticulous quality that can be found throughout the home. And trust us, there’s plenty more to see from this renovation!

One of Edmonton’s original standouts, getting a very good second act. Welcome to The Atrium!
Built for a prominent Edmonton family, this home has the kind of architecture you don’t come across every day. Full skylight ceilings run through the hallways, creating a gallery-like feel with plenty of room to live with art.
The new owners have a real love for mid-century modern design, which made this project especially fun to bring to life. Quarter-sawn walnut cabinetry and millwork, Vitoria Regia granite and a few bold choices along the way.
The bones are good. We had a lot of fun with the rest.

It’s hard to picture the finished result when all you see are temporary supports, exposed framing and raw materials. But every custom home reaches this stage.
This floating staircase was one of those features that demands a little faith. Long before it became the architectural focal point of the home, it looked more like an engineering puzzle than a design statement.
Then it all came together.
