We're building today for tomorrow, and that extends to the communities we live and work within.

The Buffalo Child and Youth Advocacy Centre is one of those community-based organizations that is helping create a ripple effect of awareness and action to protect the children and youth in our communities.

October is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and we stand together with the Buffalo Centre for the safety, security and well-being of our communities.

Sites and sounds – there’s nothing quite like watching heavy equipment work in perfect rhythm.

Bucket after bucket, the excavator keeps the cycle moving. Trucks pull in, get loaded, and head back down the haul road as the rhythm of the jobsite builds.

From cool mornings and rain to strong winds, frost, or early snow —fall conditions can change quickly. We’ve been talking to our crews about staying prepared as conditions change.

A few things to keep in mind this fall:

🌦️ Check the forecast — Discuss weather hazards and controls during every pre-job meeting or toolbox talk.
🚨 Know when to stop — Review emergency procedures and suspend critical work when weather creates unsafe conditions, especially during lifting operations or work at heights.
🧹 Secure the site — Maintain good housekeeping and secure loose materials, equipment, and debris that could become hazards in high winds.
🧥 Dress appropriately — Layer up, avoid cotton in cold or wet conditions, wear proper cold-weather PPE, and stay dry.
⚠️ Know the signs — Fatigue, numbness, shivering, and loss of coordination can indicate cold-related illness. Take warm-up breaks when needed.

Plan ahead. Stay alert. Look out for one another. Stay safe. 🦺

The engine comes to life, the bucket digs deep, and the swing begins—then comes the unmistakable sound of material hitting the truck.

Bucket after bucket, the excavator keeps the cycle moving. Trucks pull in, get loaded, and head back down the haul road as the rhythm of the jobsite builds.

The seasons are changing and so are the hours of daylight.

Low light conditions increase the chance of accidents, particularly during early morning and late evening shifts. Whether you are on the jobsite or traveling on the road, here are a few extra safety reminders:

💡 Light it up: Use flashlights, headlamps, and strategically placed light plants. Keep walkways well lit, and make sure headlights, windows, and mirrors are clean.
🦺 Make sure you’re seen: Hi-visibility clothing can lose its reflective properties from dirt, oil, and wear. Check your gear regularly and replace it when needed.
📢 Communicate clearly: Low-light conditions demand clear communication, especially when working around mobile equipment and vehicles.

See, be seen, and get home safe.

The rumble of rigid frame trucks, the crunch of material hitting the dump, and the steady push of dozers spreading it into place. This is heavy construction in motion.
