What’s in the bag?
My everyday carry for watercolour sketching.
When I paint, I stop and paint for a few hours generally, so my kit for small sketches is able to keep me busy all day.
For this method, I am sketching small, and use a nice 9” x 12” clipboard that can hold my papers.
Here I have two pouches, the first has everything I need in relative travel size. In the other pouch that measures 11” tall, I have additional brushes I can bring if I really want to have more brushes to play with, but my travel set has a generous 6 brushes; a 4, 8, 3x12, and a 16.
I also have:
- watercolour pencils (w sharpener)
- retractable lead pencil 0.7 (w refills)
- eraser (w refills)
💧
- Spray bottle large (for carrying water)
- clip on cups
📐
- sewing ruler
- travel Advil holder (in case)
- tiny clips
My small metal palette works well for me, and I have a large tube of gouache which I don’t usually use but I decided to grab it.
1 case is quite minimal, and I thought it would be fun to share, I have been looking at smaller palettes, and I probably could streamline even more, but this is what I’m currently using for small studies. I think I would prefer to have the same palette regardless of the size paper I’m using. So some version of this will probably be my mainstay.
My colours are mixes that I’ve made, the foundation is the Apelles palette and additional colours will fluctuate.
