Chartersville Project:

Phase 2: Flooring: Tile and Hardwood

This phase of the project was the most labour intensive part of this project. We started by ripping and removing over 3800 square feet of flooring, both ceramic and hardwood. This part was physically demanding and needed to be approached with care as we wanted to limit and contain the amount of dust generated during this phase.

After removing all the debris along with baseboards and trims, we proceeded by replacing some of the subflooring (plywood). This allowed us to have a leveled floor throughout the entire house. Applying proper glue for adhesion along with a plethora of screws to was needed to properly stabilize and secure the subfloor to the floor joists.

Once the subflooring was properly installed following hardwood and ceramic installation guidelines, we started with the tile installation in the kitchen and dining room areas as well as the entrance of the house. Using a laser to guarantee a straight line allowed us to apply the tile with precision and in a timely manner.

Once the tile and grout was properly set, we then proceeded with the hardwood installation throughout the house. This was a big undertaking as there were 4 floors requiring new flooring. Seeing as this was an older home and not all the walls were perfectly straight, lots of careful planning was needed to limit waste, achieve a perfect finish and finish in a timely manner.

Chartersville Project

1st phase: Kitchen Renovation

The first step of this kitchen renovation started by working closely with a designer to render a new design concept. I was then able to use the drawings for precise finishing and effectively finish in a timely manner.

Next came a total demo. From tearing down the old cabinets, countertop, back splash tiles, sink, floor tiles, subfloors, drywall and insulation, this kitchen needed a complete overhaul.

After demo, I started with roughing in new electrical and plumbing systems into the walls. I then proceeded with increasing the R-value of the kitchen area with a higher rated insulation.

Next, the new subfloor and drywall were installed followed by plastering and painting. After letting the paint settle for a few days, I then installed the new cabinets, backsplash, sink and faucet.

To finalize this phase, new tiles, trim, crown moulding, and fixtures were installed giving this "new" kitchen a modern and rustic look.
