Bathroom fan. Wrong destination!
In an older home or a reno, a bathroom fan can sound fine but send damp air into the attic instead of outdoors. That’s a detail worth checking not something you can judge from the bathroom ceiling.
The fan removes moisture from the room. The duct needs to carry it outside. If it ends in the attic, that moisture stays inside the house.
Over time, it can contribute to damp insulation, staining and mold growth. Those signs need assessment; they don’t tell you the full extent of a problem on their own.
For a buyer, there are two separate questions: does the exhaust route need correcting, and has the moisture affected nearby materials? Fixing the duct doesn’t automatically deal with damage already there.
A fresh bathroom renovation doesn’t answer either question. The useful information is where the duct ends, what’s visible around it, and what needs repair or further assessment.
