Dawe’s Mechanical (1981) Limited is currently inviting applications for an Oil Burner Mechanic to join our growing team as the company is growing.
Oil Burner Mechanic
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, the Oil Burner Mechanic will be responsible for installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial and residential oil fired furnaces, boilers, burners, and related heating equipment. This role ensures safe, efficient operation of heating systems for residential and commercial clients across Newfoundland and Labrador.
This position working 5 days on and 2 days off, with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
• Support and assist in promoting a heath and safety culture.
• Capable of following provided procedures to efficiently achieve quality objectives.
• Maintain a clean worksite.
• Strong understanding of combustion principles, fuel systems, and heating controls.
• Ability to read technical diagrams and follow manufacturer specifications.
• Must have the ability to do repetitive lifts and turns for several hours per day.
• System Installation – Install oil-fired boilers, furnaces, burners, tanks and venting systems according to provincial codes.
• Preventive Maintenance – Perform annual cleanings, tune-ups, combusting testing and efficiency checks.
• Diagnostics & Repair – Troubleshoot burner failures, ignition issues, fuel delivery problems, and system inefficiencies.
• Safety Compliance – Ensure all work meets provincial safety regulations and manufacturer specifications.
• Customer Support – Communicate findings, recommend solutions, and provide clear service documentation.
• Emergency Service – Respond to no-heat calls and urgent repairs during peak heating season.
Education and Accreditation
• Oil Burner Mechanic Certification (provincial equivalent).
• Must have the ability to read technical diagrams and follow manufacturer specifications.
• Previous commercial and industrial experience.
• Oil tank installation and removal experience preferred.
• Knowledge of HVAC controls and thermostats experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and customer-service mindset.
• Minimum 1-3 years of experience in heating system service or installation.
Skills and Knowledge:
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to follow direction (written and oral).
• Ability/willingness to learn new skills and concepts.
• Ability/willingness to work safely with hazardous chemicals and procedures.
• Safety conscious and able to perform tasks and responsibilities in a safe manner while adhering to Dawe’s Mechanical (1981) Limited policies and procedures.
• Ability to interpret data.
• Experience with oil tank installation and removal
• Knowledge of HVAC controls and thermostats.
• Capable of using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot basic problems.
• Excellent communication and customer-service mindset.
• Basic computer skills with word and excel.
• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Knowledge of the OHS and construction regulations.
• Ability to influence and inspire others and manage cross-functional relationships.
• A valid driver license and a driver’s abstract.
