Revisions are part of the custom home process.

We enjoy working through ideas with our clients to refine the layout and overall feel until it’s exactly right for them. This project has already seen several significant adjustments throughout the design phase — and now, even with the main floor fully framed and most of the loft structure in place, we’re making another major change.
The new direction? Expanding the great room and kitchen, and pushing the deck further toward the rear yard.

We’re moving quickly to revise the architectural drawings, coordinate with engineering, and work alongside the site team to keep construction progressing smoothly — all while resubmitting to the city for updated approvals.

That’s the reality of custom work: flexibility, collaboration, and problem-solving at every stage.

Stopped by my Flamborough project to check on progress and catch up with the contractor. Really happy with how the detached garage turned out—especially the loft. To comply with zoning height limits, we designed the rear dormer with a 6’-6” high wall instead of a full 8’, and the space still turned out beautifully. I think the clients are going to really enjoy this space

Taking the roof off this client’s shop to create a brand new second-floor living space.

We’re adding a structural steel frame, a timber frame structure, and enclosing it all with SIP panels for strength and efficiency.

I’ve been collaborating with the timber frame carpenter to model their work in 3D, which makes it easy to fine-tune the layout, avoid conflicts, and make the most of natural light in this new space.

This one’s going to be a beauty.

With the warmer weather, a lot of people are turning their thoughts to the cottage.

I’m working on plans for one that needs a full rebuild, along with a new two-storey addition and a covered porch to make the most of the lake views. Projects like this are a good reminder of how fun this work can be.

Walk-through day with a new client who bought a fixer-upper with big plans of open spaces, cathedral ceilings, and a whole new vibe.

The original plan was to remove a few walls and retrofit the structure with LVLs and rafter work, but after seeing the state of things, we realized the smarter (and actually more cost-effective) move was to tear off the old roof entirely.

Now we’re going full custom: new vaulted ceilings, a re-imagined main floor layout, and adding both front and rear porches— all tied together under a brand-new trussed roof.

Sometimes starting fresh is the best way forward.

Still dialing in some interior details on this custom farmhouse, but excited to be moving forward with coordination. The structural steel in this project will be the most extensive I’ve used to date—and it’s key to achieving the dramatic open space at the center of the home.

Bonus loft spaces were added to each of the main bedrooms, and we made great use of the roof volume above the garage as well.

One standout feature: an indoor paddleball court in the basement. The main basement height is 10’, but we’re dropping an additional 6’ to accommodate the court. Once the soil report confirms the water table, we’ll complete engineering for a slab designed to resist hydrostatic pressure.
