Transformation Tuesday!
This process took me 25 hours from start to finish. I started by digging out the entire berm with my trusty and garden fork to remove creeping thistle, sow thistle, and other weeds. Then I dug out the clumps of giant miscanthus grass.
I edged the perimeter with the root slayer edger, added a layer of cardboard as a barrier, and topped with 3 yards or compost and cedar mulch.
I used the rocks I dug up and found around the space to add extra texture and habitat. Some of the rocks feature a lovely moss layer!
Now, this space is home to 40 new native plants in addition to the red raspberry and native black currant shrubs I found hiding behind the shed and transplanted (gifts from the birds!)
The Robin's are already busy digging for worms and other insects, and I watched a couple happy butterflies laying eggs on their host plants.
