Blue on black - No turning back!

One of our final exteriors that we wrapped up in late October. This one put the carbide scrapers to the test!

We spent a few weeks on the prep, before laying on a base coat of oil primer. We masked off the windows and sprayed them, along with the soffits/fascia/eavestroughing. Then, we wrapped up by finishing the top coat on the original cedar shingles.

Do it once,
Do it right.

Note from the author: Although the dark colours look sharp, they will get hot in the sunlight, which can lead to the colour fading earlier and add stress to the paint.

Morris Painting is officially 5 years old, as of last week! Time waits for no paint brush, apparently.

Ever since I got the opportunity to learn spraypainting at back when I was 18, paint has been my primary source of income.

I also learned a lot with Student Works Painting in university, as you can see from this picture where I am in boss mode.

Following that, and a few epic travels to south america, me and my best friend started Hydrostone Painting together. We started from the bottom, faced lots of adversity, but we found success in being honest and working hard.

Morris Painting is the result of each phase of my career.

The only question is ... what's next?

Got any exterior renovations coming up in 2025?

The decision of picking a colour(s) is as old as time.

Ultimately, everyone has their own personal experience with colour, and final decisions should be made by the homeowner. With that being said, there are some factors you may want to consider.

Neighbourhood and Style of Home: Heritage homes must follow a specific colour palette. Even if your home does not have heritage designation, it may look out of place depending on the street or community.

Landscaping: Consider your home's exterior during all 4 seasons. For example, if there are many trees or bushes present, a colour with a more earthy tone could pair well and offer a unified look.

Accents: Shutters and other interesting architectural details can be emphasized by using a contrasting colour.

Existing colours: Take into account areas such as your roof, masonry, doors, railings, soffits, etc. For example, a red or terra cotta roof will look best with warm or neutral colours.
