🌭🥶 Our May 29th Company BBQ was a true Maritime experience!

Freezing temperatures, rain in the forecast, and lawn games that never made it out of the closet - but that didn't stop us. We built a small temporary shelter to keep the rain away while Dan Brown, CRSP manned the BBQ.

Most of us ended up gathering in the hallway to stay warm, proving that good food and great company can make any weather a success.

Thanks to everyone who joined in and embraced the elements with us, including Victoria Venier who took the photos, and the Avondale Social Committee for the planning and preparation!

This month, Alan Antony, Project Coordinator in our Halifax office, took on the Purple Cow 5km during the Medavie Blue Nose Marathon weekend! A great event supporting an important cause and bringing the community together.

At Avondale, we’re proud to continue our ongoing work with New Brunswick Community College in Moncton, NB, helping modernize and improve the campus through a variety of important infrastructure and accessibility upgrades.

Some of the recent work includes:
• Numerous stairwell upgrade projects, all designed to bring existing pathways and corridors up to current code standards
• Door and frame replacements throughout the facility
• Construction of a new barrier-free walkway and entrance
• Installation of new epoxy flooring at the upgraded entryway

Working in active educational environments requires careful planning, coordination, and a strong focus on safety and accessibility — and we’re proud to support improvements that will benefit students, staff, and visitors for years to come.

April Photo Contest Winner

Big congratulations to Victoria Venier on winning another photo contest! 📸👏

This time, her lens captured the stunning Tidal Beacon atop the “Rise Again” building in Halifax, a piece shaped by the sea, honouring our past while looking ahead with optimism.

While playing tour guide around the harbour, they climbed more than a few stairs to take in this meaningful work of art - one that really resonates with Maritimers. Safe to say, the view (and the photo!) was worth it.

Not every smile is perfect, but every single one makes a difference.
We were thrilled to celebrate the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign on Friday, where even the most “wonky” of icing smiles helps create real impact in our communities.

From its beginnings in 1996 supporting Hamilton Children’s Hospital, to raising over $150 million for charities and community groups across Canada, this campaign proves that small gestures can go a long way. Last year alone, Smile Cookie raised $22.6 million in support of more than 600 organizations - including local hospitals, food banks, schools, and community care groups.

We’re happy to do our part, because supporting our communities is always worth it (and a sweet treat along the way doesn’t hurt either). 🍪

Fire Station #2 Renovation

Built in 1908, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Station #2 on University Avenue in Halifax, NS, is the oldest continuously operating fire station in Canada and is still active today. In 2020, Station #2 was designated as a municipal heritage property.

Avondale was engaged by Halifax Regional Municipality to carry out renovations to the second floor of this historic building, along with the replacement of its garage doors.

Given its critical role in downtown emergency response, work was carefully phased to maintain uninterrupted service while upgrading functionality and preserving its historic character.

Great night on the ice with the Construction Association of Nova Scotia Emerging Leaders!

On April 10, our team had the chance to take part in the Emerging Leaders Curling Bonspiel - an evening that brought together a bit of friendly competition, plenty of laughs, and some impressive (and not-so-impressive 😊) curling skills.

The event kicked off with a group lesson, giving everyone the chance to learn (or refine) their technique before the games began - proving it’s never too late to try something new.

Opportunities like this are what make our industry strong: connecting with peers, building relationships, and having some fun along the way.

Thanks to CANS for organizing another great event, we’re already looking forward to the next one! 🥌
