When dealing with textured ceilings, prep work is of utmost importance as this is an extremely messy process. We always use a quality floor covering which is taped down to provide as much protection to the floor as possible as well as using plastic to protect areas from dust. The prep work takes considerable time, but is essential to ensure adequate dust management, protection of property and ease of clean-up. Once all that is complete, we can then start the process of scraping and coating an existing textured ceiling to bring it to a paint grade finish.

This is one of those jobs that the prep work took longer than the sanding did. I always do what I can to keep as much dust contained as possible which includes lots of plastic and turning any hvac systems off to keep dust from being stirred up. I often don't have to sweep or vacuum after sanding due to the prep work I do.

Now, if your New Year resolution has you finally getting around to your unfinished drywall repairs or renos, you know who to call!

This repeat client had a propane fireplace surround which will be getting Venetian plaster and they needed it to be 100 percent smooth for the plaster guys. I used tear-away bead along the wall and floor (there will be no baseboard) a metal L bead around the fireplace and square vinyl corner bead around the top and right side (there will be a mantle that goes along the top and side). Gave a couple coats and a sand..All ready for some primer a d the plaster.

The client had a recurring crack in her ceiling which was repaired three separate times (not by me). At this point we both agreed that the best course of action was to cut out a portion of the ceiling and install new drywall. Of course I cannot guarantee that the crack won't come back at some point and obviously communicated this with the client which she was well aware of. We will cross our fingers and hope for the best!
