Please note the following from the Nova Scotia Department of Labour when considering hiring a contractor for installing a ductless split system heat pump.
If your contractor does not provide a valid Certificate of Qualification in the Trade of "Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic" issued by the Provincial Department of Labour and a Green Card issued by the Federal Department of the Environment they are not qualified to install or service any refrigerant containing components.
The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Trade requires mandatory certification in the Provice of Nova Scotia. To install and service these systems without qualifications is in violation Provicial and National Codes of Pratice and is punishable by law.
(d) "refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic trade" or "trade" means the work performed in servicing or installing refrigeration or air conditioning equipment by a refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic who
(i) assembles or installs any component of refrigeration and/or air conditioning machinery contained in a refrigeration system which includes any or all of the following components: compressor, condenser, generator, heat exchanger, absorber, adsorber, liquid receiver, evaporator, inter-connecting piping and accessories, and who
(ii) tests, adjusts, repairs or instructs in the operation of refrigeration or air conditioning machinery contained in a refrigeration system including any or all of the components mentioned in subsection (1) [clause (i)];
