Highland Farm Small farm, organic market garden and Permaculture co-op

Located in West Hants county along the tidal Kennetcook river, Highland farm is owned and operated by the Alex, Anna and Pam DeNicola. The approximately 120 acres of land consists of a mix of woods, pasture and hayland, residential and barns, with the balance in marginal marshland and river escarpments. Garden cultivation, done with our horses and small tractor, totals around 3 1/2 - 4 acres, wit

h the wide variety of organic produce being sold directly to our many loyal customers at the Halifax Farmer’s Market since 1992. These days, as we attempt to practice permaculture(small&slow) more intensely, the opportunities for creative and beneficial change seem to never end! We hope Highland Farm will become a place where much PC learning and practice can happen, especially around edible wild plants, vegetables, a few mixed livestock, and the use of a horse with very simple yet efficient tools.

Spring beets and their greens are a sight for sore eyes. Makes me itch to reread Jitterbug Perfume.

A couple of ways you may get help if you have no money to pay your heating bill. It's not enough, but it's something.

Hello and happy summer!

This Saturday will commence the beginning of our weekly CSA shares. The shares will run until October 7th.

For those picking up at the Historic Brewery Market, the hours are 7am to 1pm. I will be packing up and leaving the market by 1:30 so please be sure to get there before 1pm.
I will drop off shares at the Shambhala Center between 2:20-3:30pm. If I miss seeing you there, I will leave the shares in the entry room where the front desk is.
Pick up at the farm is between 4-6pm Fridays.

The shares will be delivered in baskets with reused grocery bags. Please feel free to bring your own bags to use when you pick up your share.

My cell number is 902-790-0687, or email if you have any questions.
I look forward to seeing you on Saturday and sharing the bounty of the season.
