A truly great kitchen balances beautiful design with how you actually live. For this renovation, we paired a bold, modern aesthetic with our clients' top priorities, focusing on rich textures and a layout that just works.

Instead of standard, flat cabinets, we went for high-contrast. Sleek matte navy blue cabinets anchor the space, while vertical wood slats add texture, warmth, and a stunning focal point along the wall.

Every detail and appliance was chosen to fit perfectly:

The Backsplash: We installed a 2x2 green tile backsplash with crisp white grout, adding a beautiful pop of color and a fresh, modern pattern to the space.

The Appliances: The stainless steel refrigerator and built-in island microwave offer a clean, professional look without cluttering the room.

The Fixtures: The low-profile hood fan keeps the cooking area looking sharp and open, while the warm pendant lights add the perfect finishing touch over the island.

By combining strong materials with smart layouts, we created an open-plan kitchen that is both beautiful to look at and incredibly easy to live in.

“The Nest” is what this lovely family calls their new home—one we had the privilege of renovating. This project was also honoured with the Most Outstanding Renovation – Secondary Suite award at the 2026 Peak Awards.

Why your grout choice matters just as much as your tile

It’s easy to focus all your attention on selecting the perfect tile, but rushing the grout colour at the end can undermine the entire design. Grout isn’t just functional, it’s a key detail that shapes how the finished space looks and feels.

Two approaches to consider:

A grout color that blends with your tile softens the lines between each piece, creating a smooth, continuous look. This approach feels clean and high-end, can make smaller spaces appear larger, and keeps the focus on the tile’s texture and finish.

If you want to highlight pattern and layout, contrast is your best tool. Light tile paired with dark grout (or the reverse) defines each piece, making patterns like subway or herringbone stand out and adding a more graphic, architectural feel.

Don’t treat grout as an afterthought. A thoughtful choice can take your tile work from good to exceptional.
