Today is recognized worldwide as National PTSD Awarenss Day. On this day we acknowledge, raise awareness for, and support those with PTSD.
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It can affect anyone, regardless of background or circumstance.
But the good news is recovery is possible. Treatment includes access to social supports, counselling and medication.
So what can you do?
- Learn more about PTSD at Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) or PTSD Association of Canada
- If you know someone with PTSD, support your loved ones by providing support where you can and encourage them on their recovery journey
- Attend workshops, events, and get involved with organizations working to support people with PTSD
- Wear blue, the recognized colour of PTSD awareness
