FROM DETERIORATING ENTRYWAY TO A COMPLETE FRONT-YARD TRANSFORMATION.

This classic Hamilton home deserved more than a facelift — it needed an entrance where every detail worked together.

We began by removing the old aluminum awnings, failing tile overlay, rusting steel railings, prefabricated stairs, and crumbling retaining wall. The goal was to replace the deteriorating features with a fresh, cohesive design that complements the home's character while giving it a completely new look.

The transformation features a brand-new concrete porch, solid concrete steps, and a broom-finish concrete walkway running directly from the driveway to the front entrance. Sleek black aluminum railings complement the refreshed exterior colour palette, while a new retaining wall from OAKES adds definition, structure, and presence to the front yard.

To bring it all together, new modern exterior light fixtures, client supple address plaque and sleek black exterior doors with glass inserts, tying the entire design together with a clean, coordinated finish.

From the concrete work underfoot to the finishing details at the front door, every element contributes to the final result. That's the difference a well-planned exterior renovation and quality craftsmanship can make.

Bringing 180+ Years of History Back to Life

We were originally contacted by our wonderful client when the 1970s stamped parge overlay on their circa 1840 property had begun deteriorating and falling apart, along with a number of other structural and water-intrusion concerns throughout the property.

The question was simple:

Could we bring the original stone façade back to life?

We brought in our trusted heritage structural engineers, G. Douglas Vallee Limited, to assess the property and help guide us in the right direction. Once their heritage assessment and recommendations were completed, we got straight to work—starting with the front façade.

When the old parging was carefully removed, the answer became clear.

The original stone was not only still there—it had been remarkably well preserved underneath.

What had been hidden for decades was a beautiful historic stone façade. Our focus shifted to carefully restoring what was there, preserving as much of the original material and character as possible, rather than simply covering it up again.

So far, we’ve:
▪️ Removed the deteriorating 1970s stamped parge to expose the original stone
▪️ Carefully sandblasted the exposed stone to remove stubborn, stuck-on material and tooling marks, revealing the natural character and texture of the original masonry
▪️ Replaced the deteriorated wooden window sills with new stone sills
▪️ Replaced spalled brick and completed selective repointing at the chimney
▪️ Removed poor later block repairs where original doorways had once been, rebuilding those areas using reclaimed original stone recovered right here on site
▪️ Completed selective masonry repairs and repointing while preserving the existing stone wherever possible

There’s something pretty special about uncovering craftsmanship that has been hidden for generations and getting the opportunity to give it a second life.

The stone restoration is coming together, but we’re not finished yet.

This restoration has been a collaborative effort, with specialized masonry work carried out by our masonry trade partners. We appreciate the skill and craftsmanship involved in carefully restoring this historic stonework while preserving as much of the property's original character as possible.

One of the next steps will be aging the new sills and replacement stone so they better complement the existing historic masonry.

Then we move on to the next phase:
Cladding repairs and replacements, including enlarged 6" eavestroughs and downspouts designed to handle the steep roof, new fascia, soffit and frieze board, along with an integrated gutter and splash-guard system to help keep the water where it belongs.

And, of course, the replacement of the two aging upper level side decks.

Backyard Transformation | Dundas, ON

Another backyard transformation is in the books!

This townhome backyard in Dundas was completely rebuilt from the ground up to create a beautiful, low-maintenance outdoor space designed to last for years.

We properly regraded with a 2% slope away from the home for effective drainage.

We installed a high-performance base system featuring GATOR BASE® foundation panels with a proprietary locking edge restraint system—providing exceptional stability while reducing excavation, improving drainage, and creating a long-lasting foundation for pedestrian applications.

We finished with premium Oaks Rialto Ch*****ne pavers, complemented by an Onyx Black border, matching stone step, and a professional polymeric sand installation for a clean, durable finish.

To complete the space, we installed Oaks Fronterra garden curbs to create clean, defined planting beds before finishing the remaining areas with fresh sod for a polished, finished appearance.

OLD. WORN. OUTDATED.

PROFESSIONALLY REIMAGINED.

As part of an ongoing interior renovation project, this tired staircase was transformed into a feature that complements the home's existing luxury vinyl plank flooring.

The original staircase showed years of wear, an outdated painted finish, and was missing key finishing details, including the base cap. Rather than replacing it, we restored and upgraded it through meticulous preparation, custom stain development, precision colour matching, and the installation of new finish trim.

To ensure a seamless transition throughout the home, multiple custom stain samples were created and refined until the perfect colour match was achieved. The result is a staircase that looks as though it was designed alongside the new flooring from the very beginning.

Washroom #1 of 2 – Progress Update

After completion of the homes structural repair we are on to the first of two washroom renovations for these wonderful clients.

So far, we've completed the rough framing, and self levelled the subfloor. We've also now installed the Schluter® DITRA-HEAT system throughout the floor area, providing uncoupling, crack isolation, and the foundation for a warm, comfortable finished floor. Careful planning and layout ensure even heat distribution while accommodating the custom shower, vanity, toilet, and floor vent locations.

This project involves a complete transformation from the framing stage up, including new plumbing, floor preparation, waterproofing, tile installation, and finish work.

The work you don't see is often the most important. Investing time in proper preparation and quality materials helps ensure a bathroom that not only looks great but performs for years to come, we are never afraid to show this stage while some keep hid hidden!

This front porch in Waterdown had edge deterioration, concrete spalling, and a failing railing system caused by years of freeze/thaw exposure and water pe*******on.

Instead of a cosmetic patch, this project was approached as a full reinforced restoration.

Scope of work included:

• Removal of all loose and compromised concrete
• Rebuilding failed stair and landing edges
• Mechanical surface preparation of existing slab
• Bonding agent application for proper adhesion
• Installation of reinforcement throughout the landing and stairs
• 2” reinforced bonded concrete overlay system
• Reformed stair geometry for cleaner lines and consistency
• New exposed aggregate finish on stairs and landing
• Installation of new modern black Century Aluminum railings with concrete anchors
• Concrete walkway slab lifting to bring the bottom step into Code Compliance
• Final sealing and cleanup

A lot of exterior concrete failures start at railing posts and exposed edges where water enters, freezes, expands, and slowly breaks the concrete apart over time — especially in Canadian winters.

The goal with this project was not just improving appearance, but rebuilding the system properly while modernizing the entire front entry.

We were brought into this project after another contractor was unable to complete the renovation.

The original scope includes two bathroom renovations and a stair remodel, but after reviewing the existing conditions on site, it became clear that structural repairs would need to be addressed before the renovation could move forward properly.

Inside the crawlspace, we identified foundation settlement along with previous structural modifications that were not adequately supported.

Working alongside structural engineers, we developed a remediation plan to stabilize the affected areas and restore proper load support throughout the space.

The structural scope included:
✔ targeted underpinning
✔ new reinforced pad footings
✔ engineered beam and column installation
✔ proper load transfer to stabilized bearing points

With the structural work now complete, we’re ready to move into the reconstruction phase and begin the bathroom renovations for these clients.

Projects like this are a good reminder that successful renovations often depend on addressing the underlying structure first — not just the finished surfaces.

The difference between getting it done… and getting it done right can cost—or save—you thousands.

Just yesterday we were contacted by one of our previous prospective clients, again, about hiring someone else who was " more competitive".

Often, I hear from homeowners who:
• Paid a deposit and got ghosted
• Hired the cheapest quote and ended up redoing the entire job
• Are now dealing with unsafe or subpar work

Here’s the reality most people learn the hard way: price is not the most important factor.

Understanding all contractors carry different operation costs it is understandable to be some variation in pricing but, when a price is significantly lower, something is usually missing.

My uncle who has owned a successful Metal Roofing company for 30 years always told me, "Materials cost what they cost so if the price is cheaper its coming off the workmanship"

What you are actually losing:
– Proper insurance or coverage
– Experience and skill
– Quality materials
– Clear scope and accountability
– Or worse… the intention to actually finish the job

And here’s what most people don’t consider:

Someone paying fair industry wages, carrying WSIB, maintaining $5M liability insurance, purchasing and keeping vehicles and tools in proper working order, staying accountable to clients, and backing their work with real guarantees…

…is not operating on the same level as someone doing this as a side hustle.

Those are not “extras.” That is the cost of running a legitimate, professional operation.

A professional contractor isn’t just “doing the work.”
They’re reducing your risk, protecting your investment, and standing behind what they build.

Before you hire anyone:
• Verify credentials and insurance
• Look at real, recent work
• Get everything in writing
• Compare scope—not just numbers

If one quote is much cheaper than the rest, don’t rush—interrogate it, take the time and look into why.

Because fixing a bad job will always cost more than doing it right the first time.
