Throw Back Thursday! This week we are going back in time to when I helped out RDL Construction with a fill and finish grading job in April! Hey that’s a tricky time of year to be off roading fully loaded triaxles and finish grading topsoil but we did it. This client had some surface drainage issues where there was a lot of water collecting beside the septic(bad spot for a pond). Well, let me tell you, I am the septic and the pond guy! These two things should not be that close in proximity! Most of the time I am contracted to design and excavate a pond, not often am I removing a pond. In this case the pooling water was definitely effecting the weeping field and needed to be removed. So I took shots with my laser so we could come up with a drainage solution. I proposed we bring in some clean fill and build a swale and install some tile under the driveway to drain the area to the municipal ditch. I brought in my 4” pump, I purchased this bad boy from my friends at RK Industrial Supply to complete my 1 acre pond project, 100 Acre Hills Lake. That baby can move some water! I emptied the pooling water which was a few feet deep into the municipal ditch. Then I imported a bunch of fill and built a swale which drained the pooling area to the tiles that I installed under the driveway which drained to the municipal ditch. By doing this I was able to drain the pooling area and get the septic field doing it’s thing correctly **thappeninthegia . Once the surface drainage was addressed the client had me bring in screened topsoil and grade the entire yard. This builder invested the correct amount of grass seed and fertilizer, maybe even more then enough. When I went to pick up my dozer buddy’s grass was already growing and green!

100 Acre Hills Lake. B Moore On Grade! Your one-stop-shop for everything Excavation and Grading and Everything Septics! Recently my friend Rolland Longchamps owner of RDL Construction asked me to take a look at a upcoming project of his. This is a unique project where there is a large amount of fill required to complete the site preparation for this build. However this lot has a large amount of acreage where we have the room and can generate the material required on site to complete the project. By doing this we will be able to create a beautiful oasis for a lower cost then importing that amount of material on site to complete the project. This is just a by-product of B Moore On Grades natural grading talents. Let the do his thing! These types of projects like earth moving and grading are so exciting for me as I love what I do as a one-stop-shop excavation contractor. I love working with homeowners and bringing their vision to life but it’s extra special when I get to work with clients like this who are so pleasant to deal with and understand what we need to do to accomplish the task at hand. They gave me their trust and the freedom to play with my Tonka Toys guided by my knowledge, experience and creativity that really showcase my heavy equipment talents and vision in my trade.
Rolly was interested in the maintenance behind owning a pond like these in the photos and videos. I wasn’t as familiar with the maintenance as I am with the design and construction of them but I said I know two gentlemen who do! I did two awesome pond projects for two great clients who take excellent care of their properties. It is always so much fun to see what some clients do with their properties! So I reached out to my friends Brock & Heather and Lance & Lori to see if they would be interested in speaking to Rolly and I as he had a few questions about the maintenance behind being a pond owner. When I Spoke with Brock and Lance they were excited to share their enthusiasm for pond ownership and invited us to come see their ponds and talk to us about how they maintain their ponds in person. I was immediately jacked up.

Check this out. This was a tight site on all accounts to replace this septic system. First we pumped and decomissioned the old tank, then excavated for the new tank. After that we slipped the new tank inbetween the house and the detached garage. Once the tank was set and connected for the homeowners, I moved on to the weeping bed excavation. The only room for the bed to be replaced on this site was just where the tennis court happened to be. So I removed that. Then I prepared the excavation for inspection. Then it snowed. Once that was complete we moved on to getting the material to the weeping bed. Well, the triaxles wouldn't fit passed the side of the garage. So I laced the driveway with 3/4" plywood to dump the septic sand on and then reload my mini dumper and back it around the side of the garage to weeping bed. First, I had to trim some trees to get my mini dumper in. On top of that one of Moran's trucks was 3 of mine! I had to hustle between rounds. Once we got all the sand in I moved on to the weeping bed installation, then trenched in the forcemain to connect the pump chamber to the distribution box, installed the frost protection and backfilled. Time for the installation inspection, passed. Then the snow melted, it was awesome! We were able to haul in the topsoil and do the grading! Final inspection. Passed.
