Yesterday Rita Steikow showed up at our office with treats. She does that a lot, and we love her for it!
Most people don’t know the full story of how Andrew and I ended up owning Stybek, so here it is…
Rita and her husband Peter cofounded Stybek in 1991 and built something real in the flat roofing space. When Peter passed away suddenly in 2011, Rita didn’t step back. She stepped forward, took the president’s chair, and ran the company for over a decade in an industry that doesn’t always make room for women at the top.
She hired Andrew as her GM in 2019, and at the end of 2021, she trusted us with something she had poured years of her life into.
She didn’t have to show up for us the way she has since the sale. The chapter was closed and she could have walked away, but that’s not who Rita is. She comes by with treats, with kind words, with genuine pride in what this place has become and is becoming. She is our loudest cheerleader and she has never stopped being part of this story.
In construction, women who lead don’t always get named and Rita deserves to be named. Stybek has always been women owned. Rita built the foundation of this company and we are growing it.
Stybek was always meant to be something, and we’re making sure it is! 💙
