Well folks, it's been a hella 2 weeks putting this baby to rest. This lovely lady had us in several times doing emergency pipe repairs and had the courage to make the critical decision to re-plumb. The road of life is lined with dead squirrels who couldn't make a decision.... We are touched by the trust she had in us with this one was a complete main service from the district, a full re-plumb of the house and a new combi boiler to replace her existing boiler and tank to something far more efficient.
Let's start with the main service. She had the original 1/2" copper main that had been repaired already and had no room to fit a valve on if it blew again (and it was paper thin). We chose a new route for the upgraded 3/4" main and made sure to insulate the pipe coming out of the home until it was safely below the frost line. Like all big jobs, many hands are often involved and in this case, we were supported by the professional Rego Construction crew doing the excavation and the fantastic folks at our District of Kitimat who hooked us up and made sure to make the stand pipe that was buried got replaced with one that could be easily accessed.
Next in the pics is the combi boiler. Allan has been a plumber/gas fitter for 46 years and loves boiler work, even if some of the new fangled computer tech is a bit frustrating. This system removed a monster of a mess in the utility area that now opens up for a small pantry and hangs on the wall neatly (the before and after pics speak for themselves). The Navian unit we chose has an efficiency rating of 95% and with the cost of gas now, this will really help. And just look how pretty he got it....
Now for the re-plumbing. You have all come to know how fussy we are about what we put in your HOME and that's just never gonna change. High quality Pex-A pipe expanded over heavy gauge 304 stainless steel fittings and valves. Note that we did it again, we pulled the front hose bib off before the pressure reducing valve and this is done for 2 reasons. First, it gives full available district pressure to the hose you wash your car with and second, it's how you flush your interior main line when the district does main line flushing. Simply put your hose out away from the house and turn it on and run until clear so you don't have that mucky crap end up in your home's plumbing or hot water system. It's a small thing that has huge benefits and ya, we appreciate the little things. Lines are run through the home on 3/4" trunk with only short runs of 1/2" to minimize friction and allow for the greatest amount of flow that helps with both pressure and temperature differential. We only install Woodford hose bibs and even though they technically don't need isolation valves, I have them on mine at home and that means you're getting them too. Laundry on this one is surface mounted as it's an outside wall and to make sure we don't get frozen, we keep it inside the home so you aren't going to a laundry mat.
So many of our clients live with the anxiety of, "Will this be the night I wake up to the sound of rushing water or a puddle I walk through on my way to the bathroom?" At Day-Job, we don't sell plumbing, we sell peaceful sleep and a dry path to the bathroom.
Thank you Kitimat for believing in us and inviting us into your HOMES. Currently we are booked for re-plumbing until the end of the year but will be still booking for after our winter vacation so if you'd like us to look, send us a message. Remember, we don't "estimate", we "QUOTE" and that means when we price a job, it stays that way with no surprises. Let's face it, if we don't know what kinda Kitimat crazy construction we're getting into by now, we shouldn't be doing this... 💗
