Milestone Environmental's David Meikle, Vice President, Western Region, will be speaking at the 2026 ESCA BC Conference on how Indigenous leadership and technical expertise are helping reshape watershed restoration in BC's Fraser Valley.

His session, Indigenous Led Watershed Restoration: A Collaborative Model for Building Climate Resiliency in the Fraser Valley, BC, will highlight the work of Wochmel Milestone, a joint venture between Semá:th First Nation and Milestone Environmental Contracting.

From removing over 36,000 tonnes of contaminated material to planting more than 10,000 native plants, the East Lonzo Creek restoration demonstrates what's possible through meaningful collaboration. The project also saw juvenile salmon return to the creek for the first time in over 35 years!

David will share how this partnership-driven approach is now being applied to projects like Marshall Creek, helping restore habitat and strengthen flood resilience.

Please join us in welcoming Eric Lawrance to Milestone as our new Senior Project Coordinator! Eric brings more than 15 years of hands-on experience in excavation, earthworks, site development, underground utilities and construction. His background also includes a degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University and a diploma in Construction Project Management from Algonquin College.

In his new role, Eric will support the pursuit and delivery of environmental remediation and civil construction projects across Canada, with a particular focus on Nunavut, Yukon and the Northwest Territories.

Outside of work, Eric is a musician and runner who recently completed his third marathon.

Milestone Environmental's Mike McGarragan, National Director, Business Development, will be speaking at RemTech 2026, presented by the Environmental Services Association of Alberta (ESAA).

As part of the session Top Remediation Projects: The Biggest Cleanup Projects Across Canada, Mike will spotlight Milestone's Coral Harbour Remediation Project in Nunavut, highlighting the impact of Inuit-led partnerships, environmental remediation and local capacity building.

1,690 m² of new aquatic habitat.

At Marshall Creek, restoration extended beyond the main channel. A new off-channel rearing pond added aquatic habitat, while restored creek sections, large woody debris and in-stream features created more complexity. Native planting helped rebuild the banks and riparian edge.

The work was delivered across three sites by the Wochmel Milestone Joint Venture, in partnership with Sema:th (Sumas) First Nation. Cultural monitoring, labour participation and knowledge sharing were part of the project throughout.

Because restoring habitat isn’t about one isolated feature. It’s about helping the whole system work better.

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour residential school Survivors and remember the children who never returned home. We recognize the harm that continues to affect Indigenous families and communities.

For Milestone, this day calls for reflection on our own responsibilities: how we listen, how we work and how we follow through on our commitments.

We’re proud of our relationships with Indigenous partners across Canada, and we know the value of those relationships rests in what we do together over time. That means respecting local knowledge, supporting community priorities and creating opportunities for employment, training and Indigenous businesses.
There is still much to learn and work to do. Today, we encourage everyone to make time for Survivors’ stories and reflect on what reconciliation asks of each of us, in our workplaces and beyond.

In 2016, Milestone and Decontie Construction began working together on a $4.5-million demolition and remediation project at the Corbeau Hydroelectric Station on Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg territory.

The project created training and employment opportunities for local Algonquin workers. It also led to further projects and the Pathway to Strengthening the Algonquin Anishinabe Workforce, a multi-year program focused on building long-term construction capacity.

This is one of several Indigenous partnerships Milestone has developed across Canada. Each brings together Indigenous knowledge, local experience and technical expertise while creating opportunities in employment, training, procurement and business development.
