Quick kitchen tap swap today… or at least that’s what I told myself walking in.

The old faucet had other plans.

You ever get under a kitchen sink and realize the person who installed it must’ve had baby-sized hands and unlimited optimism?

One bolt came loose easy.
The other one fought like it was protecting family secrets.

Half upside down in the cabinet, flashlight in my mouth, water lines digging into my shoulder, and questioning my career choices for at least 20 minutes.

At one point I’m pretty sure the tap and I were both equally stubborn about who was going to win.

But the old unit finally surrendered, the new kitchen taps are in, everything’s sealed up tight, and the customer is happy.

Busy with side jobs lately and honestly thankful for every call, referral, coffee, and conversation along the way. Small business support means everything.

Sunday Post - Langley

It’s been one of those weeks where every call turns into another one before you even get back to the truck. Side jobs lined up, evenings gone, and the tools are getting a full workout.

Lately, it’s all toilets. Running nonstop, slow leaks, full rebuilds, emergency plugs. The kind of work nobody really wants to deal with but everyone needs fixed right away. You walk in and people are stressed. You leave and things are back to normal. That part never gets old.

There’s a flow to it. Shut it down, diagnose the issue, swap out parts, test it properly, clean up, and move on to the next one. Different homes, different setups, but the same goal every time: do it right so they don’t have to think about it again.

It’s busy. It’s tiring. But it’s honest work, and I’m grateful for every call, every referral, and every bit of trust.

How I Chose My Business’ Name

Uncle Buck’s Plumbing didn’t come from a branding session or a business plan. It came from family, and it goes back to when I was a kid.

The name actually started as “Bucky.” That’s what I was called in early childhood. It wasn’t something I picked, and it didn’t come from friends or school. It was a family name from the start. Over time, like most nicknames, it evolved. Bucky became Bucks, but it never left the family circle. That’s where it belonged.

Because my eldest brother is 15 years older than me, I became an uncle pretty young. When his kids started talking, they didn’t call me by my first name. To them, I was Uncle Bucks. That’s how they knew me, and that’s the name that stuck as they grew up.

That name came with responsibility. It meant showing up. Being reliable. Being someone they could count on without having to ask twice.

Years later, when it came time to name a plumbing business, there wasn’t much debate.

Plumbing is straightforward. Something breaks, someone calls, and you fix it properly. People are trusting you in their homes, often when things have gone sideways. The name had to reflect trust and consistency, not just the trade.

Uncle Buck’s Plumbing already did.

It represents family, reliability, and doing things right the first time. No shortcuts. No overcomplicating it. Just honest work.

That’s the story behind the name.

Langley Plumber: Sunday Post

You can always tell when a “quick plumbing fix” isn’t going to be quick…

Got a call to replace a shower cartridge. Simple job, right? In and out, maybe an hour.

Turned the water off, pulled the handle, took off the trim… and there it was. A cartridge that hadn’t been touched in years. Seized solid like it had fused itself into the valve.

This is where experience matters.

No rushing. No forcing it and cracking the valve. Just patience, the right tools, and a bit of finesse. Worked it loose slowly, cleaned everything up, lined up the new cartridge, greased the seals, and set it in properly.

Turned the water back on…

Perfect pressure. Smooth temperature control. No leaks.

Client thought it was a small job. And it is… when it’s done right.

That’s the difference. It’s not just about replacing a part. It’s about knowing how to handle what you don’t see coming.

I started plumbing in Grade 11 with a set of tools and a curiosity for the trade.

While others were still figuring things out, I was learning how to cut, fit, and fix. That early start led me straight into BCIT, where the pace was fast and the expectations were high.

No shortcuts. No handouts. Just skill, discipline, and putting in the work.

From a high school plumbing program to a BCIT graduate, I built my foundation the right way.

Now I bring that same mindset to every job. Do it right. Do it once. Stand behind it.

Roses are red,
Pipes can be mean,
If your drain backs up—
It’s not the luck of the green.

Skip the clover, skip the guess,
Call a plumber, avoid the mess.

A Hot Water Tank Story

Last week a family called because their hot water had suddenly stopped working.

Cold showers, dishes piling up, and a house full of frustration.

Their hot water tank had finally given up after years of service. It happens more often than people think. Tanks usually last about 10 to 12 years, and when they go, they rarely give much warning.

I showed up that afternoon, shut down the old tank, drained it, and carefully removed it. Years of mineral buildup inside made it heavier than expected. A new high efficiency tank went in, fresh connections were installed, and everything was tested to make sure it was running safely and properly.

A few hours later the house had hot water again.

Sometimes plumbing work is complicated, but sometimes it’s simply about showing up, doing the job right, and getting a family back to normal.

Hot showers restored. Problem solved.
