As summer light gets stronger, uneven finishes and wear usually become much more noticeable, especially in homes with a lot of natural light.

Exterior painting season has a surprisingly small window.

Once patios are set up, landscaping fills in, and evenings are spent outside, people suddenly start noticing the parts of the home they didn't see all winter.

Trim that looks worn down. Fading siding. Front doors scuffed up.

June is usually when exterior projects start moving from “maybe later” to “we should probably do this now.”

Not every room needs to feel bright white to feel fresh through summer.

We’ve been seeing more homeowners lean toward softened greens, muted blue-greys, and earthy tones in smaller spaces like bathrooms, laundry rooms, and home offices.

In June light, these colours tend to shift beautifully throughout the day; cooler in the morning, softer by evening, which gives the room more depth without making it feel dark.

Front doors carry a lot of personality.

They set the tone before anyone steps inside and have a big impact on how the whole house feels from the street. A front door can feel classic, bold, welcoming, or a little more modern depending on the colour and finish.

Sometimes the update isn’t repainting the entire exterior. Sometimes it’s choosing a door colour that brings the entry into better alignment with the home around it and gives the exterior a bit more presence.

A well-chosen front door colour can shift the feel of the whole house in a simple but very noticeable way.

Exterior colours almost always look lighter outside than people expect. Indoor lighting can drastically affect how a paint swatch looks which is why we always recommend taking many samples and viewing them outside around your home.

Even better if you can take the time to look at the colors in direct sun, evening shade, and against landscaping before making a final decision.

A colour that works at 7 PM matters just as much as one that works at noon.

We’ve been leaning into more colour-drenched spaces lately; where the walls, trim, ceiling, and doors are painted the same colour.

Colour drenching creates a softer, more immersive feel in a room. It removes harsh visual contrast and makes the space feel quieter, warmer, and more settled overall.

It’s especially effective in smaller spaces like powder rooms, home offices, or reading corners where you want the room to feel calm, comfortable, and intentionally layered without needing to add more décor.

Mudrooms, side entries, laundry rooms, and back hallways usually see the most wear once summer routines pick up.

People are in and out more. Shoes, bags, guests, backyard traffic; these spaces start working overtime.

All that wear and tare can cause those rooms to stand out more against the rest of the home, and not in a good way.
