Poly-B got you down?
We recently worked with a homeowner who was closing on a new place and discovered the home had Poly-B plumbing throughout during the inspection.
Poly-B piping is known to develop leaks or bursts over time, and some insurance companies will not cover homes that still have it. In many cases the long-term solution is replacing all the plumbing in the house, but that is a major project and not always in the budget right away.
Instead of pushing a full replacement, we talked through a few options.
In this case the homeowner decided to install a smart main water shutoff valve. The system allows them to monitor their plumbing and shut off the water from their phone if anything unusual happens. It also runs regular micro-leak checks and provides a certificate of installation that some insurance companies recognize.
This gives the homeowner peace of mind while they plan future upgrades, and it allows any potential issues to be handled in smaller targeted repairs instead of replacing everything at once.
Every home and budget is different. Our goal is to help homeowners understand their options and make the decision that works best for them.
