A new passage lever and deadbolt ,I installed a couple days ago. Both are LSDA products. LSDA stands for Locksmith Dealers of America, and are generally sold through locksmiths and sometimes contractors. The deadbolt is an EL 20, it doesnt have a motorized latch. The collar on the lock spins one way to lock and when the code is entered you can turn it opposite unlock it. One thing I recommend when searching for a digital lock or deadbolt, is to get one with single digit number buttons , not the ones with 2 numbers per button. They seem easier to use. Lately when on the road and stopping for a bite to eat , I noticed many places have emergency exit lights where the bulbs are burned out. Some are next to doors that are only for emergency exit and I wonder how often those doors are checked to see if they operate properly in an emergency. A few years back I was called to check a door that staff checked and could not get open. The hinges and the hardware were quite corroded and would not open with out considerable effort. I wound up replacing the hinges and the hardware. This was only discovered because the store was required to test these doors every so often. I used to do some work at an apartment building and just before a fire inspection we tested all the emergency lighting and discovered many did not work when tested. We replaced batteries , a few light bulbs , even a couple of old emergency lights themselves. if you own property or have a store or apartments , emergency lights are required to be tested at least once a month. I can supply and install batteries and light bulbs for these units. Remember , fire prevention week is not that far away and its a good time to check your emergency preparedness. Few jobs on the road today. One was this Weiser handle set. Months ago a lady called locked out of her house. The problem was the actuator broke. That is what turns and draws in the latch when you press down on the thumb latch outside. I always say that Weiser has a great warranty and will replace locks. One thing though is they will not send new parts or locks directly to locksmiths. In this case they sent the customer the wrong part twice. Both times the customer called they sent new deadlatchs. I recently removed some hardware from a house that had the exact part needed, I swapped out the part and the lock now works properly. Had chance to stop at A&W for a double teen burger and an ice cold mug of Root b**r. Man was that good lol. Hope you all are having a Safe & Secure day.

On the road today, a trip across the Lahave river to Riverport for a lock change job, just caught ferry back, was the last vehicle to get on-board , and she was full. From there , up to Hemford forest to replace a malfunctioning deadbolt. Then back to Liverpool to install a digital deadbolt . Beautiful day for a drive. Hope you all had a Safe and Secure day.

Busy day, spent part of my afternoon out in my shop rekeying locks that a customer had ordered on Amazon for a building but mistakenly ordered them keyed alike. I have been rekeying them in pairs to different keys. Nice cooler air today , but still a bit warm in the shop. Thankful for my high efficiency air cooler :) Hope you all had a Safe and Secure day.

Aftermath of a few hours of replacing locks. Customer recently bought a property , and wanted all the locks replaced for security and to replace the faded and weather damaged finishes. All keyed alike along with one digital lock as well. Had a little visitor as well. This last week been a busy one with lockouts and new installs. Nice drive in the fog this morning to replace a Weiser handle set. The customer received a new lock from Weiser free of charge. Weiser has good warranty , but their products are sometimes not that durable. The latches and actuators seem to be failure points. The smart cylinders can be problematic as well. If you only have one door to get into your home etc, I would not recommend using anything with a smart key cylinder. The cylinders can be prone to failure and stop working . If you ever notice that your key is working hard or the cylinder is gritty, replacement cylinders are avaible and I stock them. Part of a job few days ago. Change the hinges on a door. These hinges were so corroded that after I got them off, they were almost impossible to close up. In the past month I have had 2 lockouts caused by locks being installed upside down. The majority of pin tumbler locks should be installed with keyway facing up and not down like in the photo. With the lock upside down , your key can stop working and you will be locked out. It can be simple just to flip the lock,but some locks require a bit of knowledge and tools to flip the cylinder. In one case the home owners had several other doors for entry to their house, but had no keys for those locks. In the case of a lock malfunction, which does happen, just having another entry point could save you some troubles. Been on the road last couple days , from Barass corner to Yarmouth. Little over 500km. I travel all over the south shore and the south west.
