Restocking some of my herbal beeswax lotion bars and lip balms this week to prepare for the May 10th Harvest Collective Market. These Calendula Lip Balms are excellent for soothing winter-dried lips. The BooBoo Balm bars pictured are an all-around skin healer and protector, containing plantain, yarrow, lavender, and calendula. They work on cuts, burns, bug bites, and even diaper rash!

I can't wait for this spring market to kick off the season!

Wasps. They're everywhere right now looking for something sweet to eat. Unfortunately that also means they are pestering the bee hives. Tonight I made protecting the winter honey supply a little easier with these entrance reducers. In the summer, the bees have a wide gap at the bottom of the hive so that there can be lots of traffic in and out as the foragers collect nectar and pollen. But in the fall I put on these little wooden strips with grooves cut into them so that the entrance just has a few small holes instead of one huge one. This helps the guard bees to protect the colony from the pillaging wasps, and it will remain on the hive until spring, also keeping our mice and the winter winds.

Those little lavender plants I started last autumn are getting bigger and producing many aromatic blooms. Today was the first harvest of lavender flowers that will be used for infused oils, honey, and tea. I'm already thinking of rooting twice as many plants for next year!
