🌬️ 🚫 MYTH: My lawn looks fine on top, so it doesn't need aeration. βœ… TRUTH: Compaction happens below the surface β€” you often can't see it until the lawn starts thinning or struggling to hold water. Lloydminster's dense prairie clay compacts easily under summer heat and dries hard, sealing off the surface. Aerating every fall, even on a lawn that looks okay, keeps soil loose enough for roots, water, and nutrients to actually get where they need to go.

πŸ“… Now is the time to get on the schedule β€” not after Labour Day weekend has passed. We'll assess your lawn, recommend the right repair or overseeding approach, and time it for maximum results this fall. With Lloydminster's first frost typically hitting by mid-September, our booking window is one of the tightest in the network β€” don't wait to get on the calendar.

πŸ”„ 🚫 MYTH: My lawn is done for the year once summer beats it up. βœ… TRUTH: Late August through freeze-up is actually the best window all year to bring a damaged lawn back. Grass isn't fighting heat and drought anymore β€” it's free to put its energy into roots and recovery instead of just survival. With our frost date typically landing by mid-September, Lloydminster lawns need to make that recovery push early β€” but it's still very much possible.

🌱 Slit seeding cuts small grooves directly into the soil and deposits seed right into them β€” giving you far better seed-to-soil contact than just scattering seed on top. In Lloydminster's dense, clay-rich prairie soil, that direct seed-to-soil contact is what gets germination moving fast enough to beat our early frost date. Combined with fall's ideal growing conditions, it's one of the most effective ways to repair thin or damaged turf.

πŸ‚ From late August through freeze-up, grass has a long, steady stretch to grow with fewer stresses working against it β€” no summer heat, no drought, just cooler nights and heavier dew doing a lot of the work for you. On the prairies, that stretch is more compressed than in central Canada, so making the most of every week between now and our mid-September frost date really matters. Whatever we do for your lawn this fall, it has more time to actually take hold and pay off.

πŸ‚ 🚫 MYTH: I'll just wait until spring to fix the damage. βœ… TRUTH: Waiting means giving up the entire fall growing season β€” the most productive stretch of the year for grass. Here on the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, that window is shorter than in Ontario, with frost typically arriving by mid-September, so every week really counts. Spring is actually a tougher time to establish new grass because of unpredictable weather and w**d competition.

🌱 Not sure if it's actually grubs? Try the tug test: grab a handful of grass in a damaged patch and pull. If it lifts away like a loose carpet with no roots holding it down, that's a strong sign grubs have been feeding underneath. More raccoons, skunks, or birds digging up your lawn lately is another giveaway β€” they're after the grubs too, and with the open prairie surrounding Lloydminster, that wildlife activity is easy to spot.

MYTH: If I haven't seen beetles in my yard, I don't have grubs. TRUTH: By the time damage shows up, the adult beetles that laid the eggs are long gone. Grubs live and feed underground, out of sight, for weeks before any brown patches appear β€” so the absence of beetles doesn't mean the absence of grubs.
