What is the difference between a Hybrid and a Heirloom plant?

The main difference lies in reproduction and breeding: Heirlooms are open-pollinated, time-tested varieties passed down through generations that grow true-to-seed. Hybrids are intentionally cross-bred by humans to combine specific traits (like disease resistance or uniformity), and their seeds cannot be saved to grow identical plants.

So if you want to save your seeds from you garden make sure it's an Heirloom plant. Otherwise you're not going to get the fruit you expect.

The answer is Potunia. While browsing the garden center, my inner grammar nerd spotted a typo. I pointed it out to the cashier, because why not? Turns out, the sign actually said Potunia!

I bought one Potunia, I'm going to put it in a hanging basket. So pretty!

The answer to this question is the native edible spiderwort. This grassy plant features stunning purple flowers that open in the morning. Once it finishes blooming, typically when the weather becomes too hot, I cut it back, and it will flower again later in the season. I have several in my yard, and I truly enjoy them during this time of year.

The answer is Rose of Sharon Hibiscus syriacus. It is native to temperate regions of East Asia, including China and India.

This photo was taken in my garden. I'm amazed at how fast these plants grow. I planted them in 2015 to cover an ugly fence, and now it's fully covered and blooms beautifully in late July. I discovered this morning that they're invasive and not native. I'm surprised they haven't taken over the world.
