Sometimes Square One is a good place to Start!!

Just wrapped up this full gut remodel 🔨 👷‍♂️✅

We were able to improve the floor plan of this 1000 sq ft bungalow by:

- Attaining open concept.
A load bearing kitchen partition was removed and redistributed.

-Developing the Basement.
Picking up an additional bed and bath down.

-Adding practicality to storage and space.
The laundry was relocated to the lower level’s transition, making the new basement usable as a secondary suite.
& the Staircase was moved to allow a 5’x8’ walk-in closet!!

Hung from the house with a metal bracing design and mono stringer stairs - this South facing Sundeck was built to be unobstructive to the eye, and to the property.

Blending old with new, the rustic cable rail offers contemporary styling and comfy living. ⚖️ It’s greyed timber has a beefy feel of security with the convenience of a maintenance free look.

Lastly, with the heating season right around the corner… it’s nice to have the Kilowatts in the bank thanks to this full roof solar system.

If we can increase the functionality of a home while adding a fresh take.. we’ve done our job at the end of the day! 👷‍♂️

Thinking alternatively about how we use space, is a big part of design in modern construction.

This hatch door is utilized as an elegant break between dwelling areas- a garage and bonus. It:
1. Guards the living quarters above from CO2 and vehicle exhaust infiltration
2. Keeps fine dusts and airborne particulates out. Keeping your inhabited space clean.
3. Improves home efficiency by complementing the radiant in-floor heating’s tempered zoning.

A one-off, we created this handmade feature with clear grained lumber salvaged from at 30’ tall grain silo.

Pretty cool stuff, the tongue and groove edges were once beveled so that the vertically orientated boards would join together in the spherical shape of a silo.

Naturally, we re-milled and finished them into flooring.

The supporting members are mortise and tenon joinery to create the “jog” in the opening necessary for code headroom, and get the strength we needed.

Trap doors are cool, and telescopic handrails aren’t bad either.

Now unanimously referred to as “The Venue,” the Johnson residence underwent some transformations leading up to the big day!!

In poetic fashion, the original Gamut build (2014)- a 30’x 30’ balloon framed outbuilding, was finally completed and set-up as a dance floor 🕺.

Featuring 25’ tall walls, custom carriage doors, wooden floor system, and a 9/12 roof pitch, the “barn” was built with recycled lumber.

Fresh exterior finish and extensive landscaping throughout the property added to an exceptional setting.

Now the real work begins. Marriage. 🤪🥳
