Job Summary
- Identify, remove, pack, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint or contaminated soil.
- Specialized training and certification in hazardous materials handling or a confined entry permit are required. - Asbestos abatement certification required.
- The candidate must be self-motivated, have a positive attitude and be eager to work with others at construction sites, asbestos/lead abatement projects, remediation sites.
Responsibilities and Duties
1) Removes asbestos from ceilings, walls, beams, boilers, and other structures, following hazardous waste handling guidelines: Assembles scaffolding and seals off work area, using plastic sheeting and duct tape.
2) Positions mobile decontamination unit or portable showers at entrance of work area.
3) Builds connecting walkway between mobile unit or portable showers and work area, using handtools, lumber, nails, plastic sheeting, and duct tape.
4) Positions portable air evacuation and filtration system inside work area.
5) Sprays chemical solution over asbestos covered surfaces, using tank with attached hose and nozzle, to soften asbestos.
6) Cuts and scrapes asbestos from surfaces, using knife and scraper.
7) Shovels asbestos into plastic disposal bags and seals bags, using duct tape.
8) Cleans work area of loose asbestos, using vacuum, broom, and dust pan.
9) Places asbestos in disposal bags and seals bags, using duct tape.
10) Dismantles scaffolding and temporary walkway, using handtools, and places plastic sheeting and disposal bags into transport bags.
11) Seals bags, using duct tape, and loads bags into truck.
Qualifications and Skills
Must be able to TRAVEL TO JOB SITES to perform work.
Duties and responsibilities:
- First response to any emergency services
- Complete on-site safety inspections
Perform the applied structural drying per the IICRC standards
- Conduct demolition after fire or flood
- Remove carpets, carpet pads, drywall, insulation etc… from job site
- Haul debris from job site to truck as well as moving customer’s personal items away from work area
- Move dehumidifiers, fans and other equipment to and from work site
- Drive and operate truck and machinery (Extraction machine, dehumidifiers etc…)
- Participate in 24 hour on call rotation and respond with a maximum sense of urgency
- Cleans carpet, upholstery, floors, walls, ceilings, draperies, windows, and room accessories to remove effects of smoke and water damage such as dirt, soot, stains, mildew, and excess water and moisture, using commercial cleaning machines mounted in van with extension hoses or portable cleaning machines and variety of work aids, such as vacuum cleaners, chemical cleaning solutions, ladders, drop cloths, sponges, buckets, mops, and brushes
- Properly secure all contents, property, and equipment at each job site
- Perform various re-build and re-construction tasks as assigned
- Collect, document, and clean contents
- Utilize Restoration Software that is in place - Key enter progress notes into database on each customer daily
- Respect and follow company’s philosophy and values
- Follow all relevant safety policies and standards according to Crane’s - Restoration, Occupational Health & - Safety and WCB requirements
- Complete all paperwork daily such as time and material sheets
- Perform miscellaneous duties assigned by Management
