🚧 Road Ban Season is Here, Saskatchewan 🚧

That “white stuff” melting? It’s not just messy… it’s road ban time.

As temperatures rise, moisture weakens our road structures, especially gravel and secondary highways. To protect them, load restrictions (road bans) are put in place.

So what does that mean for concrete delivery?

👉 Reduced load sizes
👉 More trips to the same jobsite
👉 Potential delays
👉 Tighter coordination needed between supplier & contractor

And most importantly…

⚠️ It’s about safety and protecting infrastructure
These roads simply aren’t built to handle full loads during spring thaw. Ignoring bans can lead to damage, unsafe conditions, and costly repairs.

For our industry, this means:
✔️ Planning ahead is critical
✔️ Communication is everything
✔️ Adjusting expectations during this season

Concrete doesn’t stop… but how we deliver it has to adapt.

To kick off our Women in Concrete campaign, we’re proud to highlight Lisa Rathgeber of N&R Concrete Ltd.

With over 35 years in the concrete industry, Lisa has built a career rooted in relationships, community, and seeing projects come to life from the ground up.

As Office Manager and Owner, her favourite part of the job is simple but powerful.. “connecting with local customers and watching their projects become reality.”

Over the years, she’s seen firsthand how the industry continues to grow and evolve, from increasing project scale to the expanding use of concrete in applications like roadways and specialized finishes.

Her advice for women considering a career in concrete?

✨ “There are many paths in this industry, from batching and driving to testing, project management, estimating, and office leadership. The opportunities are endless and equally rewarding.”

Thank you Lisa, for being part of Saskatchewan’s concrete community and for helping pave the way for future women in the industry.
