🦇 A Bat in Your Home Is More Than Just a Wildlife Problem ‼
In the past week alone, we’ve had three different families call us after a bat made its way inside their home. In each situation, a family member had a potential exposure and sought medical attention for rabies post-exposure treatment.
Rabies is rare, but it is extremely serious. Because bat bites and scratches can be very small and sometimes difficult to notice, potential exposure should never be brushed off.
If you wake up to a bat in a room, find one near a child or someone who may not be able to reliably say whether contact occurred, or believe you or a pet may have had direct contact, do not handle the bat with your bare hands. Contact your local public health unit or healthcare provider promptly for guidance.
And remember, finding a bat inside may also be a sign that there is an entry point somewhere in your home.
