TRUMPF & Cutlite Penta: Two Different Paths in the Laser Industry

The Cutlite Penta acquisition is an interesting move to watch in the laser industry.

Cutlite Penta has built some impressive high-power laser technology and established a strong position in the market.

It also highlights something we sometimes overlook: the machine itself is only part of the equation. Long-term service, engineering, parts support, infrastructure and financial strength are just as important.

TRUMPF is a great example of what decades of that infrastructure can build.

With new backing behind Cutlite Penta, it will be interesting to see what the next chapter looks like.

Another Successful Trumpf TruLaser 5040 L57 Fiber installed through the Laser Service Solution Production Ready Rebuild Program.

We sourced it, decommissioned it, rebuilt the critical wear components, restored factory level accuracy, and delivered it production ready.

1030 TRUMPF L46 Focus Lens Replacement

Found During Preventative Maintenance

This is exactly why we do preventative maintenance.

This wasn’t a scheduled lens replacement. The machine was still running, but the customer was noticing slight inconsistencies only after multiple sheets nothing obvious enough to raise a red flag.

During our checks, we picked up irregularities in the spot image, which led us to pull the head. That’s where we found hazing on the focus lens caused by a burnt lower protection window.

A small issue on the surface but one that builds with heat, affects cut quality, and eventually turns into real downtime if it’s missed.

We caught it early, corrected it, and kept the machine cutting the way it should.

Most problems don’t announce themselves they show up in the details.

2010 Trumpf L20 CO₂ — Installed by LSS.

“Old tech”? Not quite.

Everyone says CO₂ is dead.

Reality: late-model CO₂s (2010+) still carry a lot of the same core motion and control tech you see in newer fiber systems.

We sourced this L20 from auction for under $10K, installed it, and got another customer into laser cutting without the heavy upfront investment.

Here’s what we see consistently:
• Start with a smaller CO₂
• Build work, cash flow, and confidence
• Upgrade to high-powered fiber within 1–2 years
