☀️ First Day of Summer = First Wave of Mosquitoes & Ticks! ☀️
Welcome to summer, Southern Ontario! Whether you’re firing up the grill in Mississauga, relaxing by the pool in Brampton, or hosting backyard gatherings in Oakville, one thing’s for sure — mosquitoes and ticks are officially back in action.
🦟 Did you know?
Mosquitoes become highly active when nighttime temperatures stay above 18°C — which is exactly what we’re seeing across Etobicoke, Milton, and Burlington this week. That means breeding, biting, and buzzing are now in full swing.
🪰 Tick Fact:
Ticks don’t fly. They wait on tall grass and shrubs to latch onto you or your pet as you walk by. That’s why untreated lawns and shaded areas are high-risk zones — especially in residential backyards.
❓Q: Is mosquito or tick activity worse in early or late summer?
✅ A: Both are bad, but early summer is when infestations begin. If you don't treat now, they'll multiply rapidly and become overwhelming by August.
❓Q: Do citronella candles or bug zappers actually work?
✅ A: Not really. Zappers often kill beneficial insects — not mosquitoes. And citronella? It only helps within a very limited radius. If you're not treating your full yard, you’re still vulnerable.
