Due to the fact that we had an abnormally wet spring, the Ash trees in the greater Moncton area have been affected by a fungus which affects coastal regions. Do not panic! You can simply rake up and dispose of the leaves as they drop and monitor the tree in subsequent years.

The Emerald Ash Borer has made its way to Moncton. If you suspect your tree has been affected, give us a call to discuss your options! Proper management and disposal of infested trees is essential to minimizing the spread to neighboring areas.

"Signs of EAB infestation usually only become apparent once a tree has been heavily infested. These signs include the loss of green colour in the uppermost leaves (chlorosis) and thinning and dieback of the crown."

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) only attacks ash trees of the genus Fraxinus. This does not include Mountain ash.

It's not always obvious why a tree is in decline. For this birch tree, the damage was done 40 feet from the ground and the culprit was the birch borer. It is usually the larval stage that feeds within the tree while the adults feed on leaves or other external tissues.
